Easiest Sausage Stuffing

4.6 – 13 reviews  • Sausage Stuffing and Dressing Recipes

These hush puppies from the air fryer are a little bit denser than regular deep-fried fritters, but overall they’re lighter because they’re not made in as much oil. They provide the ideal accompaniment to fried fish or shrimp since they have just a touch of cayenne pepper’s spice. They taste just as nice with a little honey drizzle, too!

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package ground breakfast sausage
  2. 1 cup chopped celery
  3. 1 cup chopped onion
  4. 3 cups water
  5. ½ cup butter
  6. 2 (6 ounce) packages dry bread stuffing mix

Instructions

  1. Combine sausage, celery, and onion in a skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until sausage is browned and crumbled, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer cooked mixture to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up excess oil.
  2. Pour water into a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir in butter until melted. Add stuffing mix, cover, and remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Add cooked sausage mixture and stir to combine.
  3. You can use margarine in place of butter.

Everyone liked it. I’ll change the following things for next time: -use half the amount of breakfast sausage -use 1 cup of broth/2 cups of water -use 1 loaf of ciabatta bread instead of pre-packaged stuffing mix. I cut up and dry out the bread on a low temp in the oven before using it. -bake the combined mixture in the oven so that it is browned

Made this for Turkey Day 2021. Overall it got good comments around the table. Used the exact ingredients but cooked it as a dressing in the oven (stuffing, BTW, is cooked in the bird, dressing is not). That may have contributed to it being a bit dry. I cook just about all dressing in the oven as we all like the crunchy bits that come from that. Will add it to my recipe stash for future Thanksgiving dinners, perhaps maybe add a bit more water to moisten it up. Overall a solid 4 stars.

I went against my own rule of not making a new dish on thanksgiving day and sure enough I once again learned my lesson. My pesonal opinion is this was terrible and I wasnt the only on who didnt like it. It was the only dish that was hardly touched and didnt even make it to the left over pile.

I did not make any changes, and my family loved it. They also thought I spent a lot of time preparing it, even though I didn’t!

This was a hit this Christmas. Fast side with extra flair. Thanks for sharing. I used one cornbread and one chicken stuffing.

Was super easy and very good for a “cheater” recipe! I’m a southern dressing lover, but the family wanted stuffing…so, stuffing is what they got! And loved it! None was leftover

I used vegetable broth and dried Cranberries that I soaked in the vegetable broth while I browned the sausage mixture. Came out delicious .

Use chicken stock instead of water

It was really good. We used it to stuff a turkey at Thanksgiving and everyone enjoyed it. Adding the fresh celery and onion gave it a bit of texture that made it seem like it was made from scratch. I’ll definitely make it again!

I used bell peppers instead of celery.

It came out great. I used ground pork and added some salt & pepper. It was flavored by the stove top stuffing mix. I will make it again.

This was a delicious and easy addition to our Thanksgiving dinner! I prepped the vegetables the day before and used one box of turkey mix and one of cornbread.
