a fantastic stuffing recipe for a turkey. It’s quite damp! This recipe can have a dash of marjoram added in addition to or in instead of the thyme. Try slipping the stuffing beneath the breast’s skin. It gives the turkey a lot of moisture.

Ingredients
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup minced onion
- 2 cups diced celery, with leaves
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 4 quarts bread cubes
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon sage
- 1 pinch dried thyme
- 1 pinch dried marjoram
Instructions
- Melt butter in saucepan. Saute onion in melted butter until soft, but not brown. Add celery and stir well. Add 2 cups chicken broth. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Place bread cubes into large mixing bowl. Add eggs, salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and marjoram. Add onion-celery mixture; combine thoroughly. If still too dry, add more chicken broth. Makes enough to stuff a 10 to 15 pound turkey.
- To bake dressing out of the turkey, place in a buttered baking dish, and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 minutes or until the top is lightly browned. More broth may be needed for this method to keep it from drying out.

Thank you for this recipe! This has become a family tradition. I make one pan with turkey or chicken broth and a half size one with veggie broth for my mother-in-law who is vegetarian. I do double the sage because we love the flavor.
This is a great recipe. Super easy. And delicious! I did omit the butter and added 1 tablespoon turkey fat from the roasting pan instead. And only one egg as we prefer that. Otherwise followed exactly. Used broken dried whole wheat hard rolls. Left them dry a few days. This was a big hit. Very good keeper recipe.
Thought this came out a little salty.
Doubled the savories – intense delicious flavor!
Good tasting ole fashioned stuffing… its perfect for everyone and this recipe is now my staple stuffing recipe for larger turkey dinners.
I can’t believe I found a recipe with the exact ingredients as my mother’s dressing! I have been looking for this recipe for 30 years! My mom gave it to me but, like someone else said, she didn’t have measurements. It was just, some of this and enough til it tastes right! My mom has been gone now for 21 years and I am so happy to have found this!
Traditional stuffing. Love it. Will make again.
Grandmother always said ‘when you think you have added enough celery, add more’. It works!
As stuffing goes, I added carrots to bring a little sweetness to it, also added two eggs and put it in a slow cooker for a bit and by the time the turkey was out of the oven the stuffing was done in the slow cooker.
Excellent, thanks. I used vegetable broth and whole wheat bread and no other changes. Very tasty ??
Surprisingly good for how simple it is!
It’s absolutely delicious. I substituted coconut oil for butter and it turned out great. The only negative is 1 tablespoon of salt is WAY too much! I would start with a teaspoon or two. Not sure we’re going to be able to finish it because of the salt.
Love this dressing recipe. I cut it in half using only one egg and it was plenty for a family of 3 with some leftovers.
great flavor, and great for in the Bird. it is more of a traditional pudding. if this is destined to be a side, I recommend toasting the bread cubes in a 350 degree oven first, to maintain shape
After trying several different stuffing recipes I will be keeping this one for future meals. Made according to directions and it was a success. I think this would also be a great base recipe to play around with different additions.
This was a huge hit for my Christmas dinner!
Very good. Cooked in a crockpot.
This is the best stuffing recipe! The only thing I did different was add about 1/2 to 3/4 cup more broth. My family loved it and there wasn’t any left over, which normally doesn’t happen! I will be preparing this recipe at every holiday meal!
You won’t be disappointed, I used a standard Italian seasoning it worked out very well. The crowd was very pleased.
This is a very flavorful simple stuffing that we continue to make annually. It is amazing!
Delicious stuffing. I cooked it separate from the turkey so I was able to get a nice crunchy layer on top. I will use this again.
