Cabbage and Gnocchi

  4.6 – 7 reviews

A comforting Polish dish with an Italian twist. Popular in Poland, haluski (cabbage and noodles) is a dish that is inexpensive. I made the decision to make some fun because I had some cabbage in the refrigerator and some gnocchi in my pantry. I adored how it came out. It is considerably more flavorful and delicious when sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package gnocchi
  2. ¼ cup butter, divided, or more as needed
  3. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  4. 1 onion, chopped
  5. 1 head cabbage, shredded
  6. 1 clove garlic, minced
  7. 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  8. salt and ground black pepper to taste
  9. 1 teaspoon grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook gnocchi in the boiling water until they float to the top, 2 to 4 minutes.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons butter and olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add onion; saute until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in cabbage, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper. Cook and stir until cabbage is translucent but still crunchy, 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Toss cooked gnocchi into the cabbage until combined. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.

Very nice and easy recipe. I added chopped ham, 1/2 tsp seasoned salt instead of salt, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, 1/2 C chicken broth and two garlic cloves.

I substituted garlic salt for garlic clove. Otherwise, I made as instructed in original recipe. So easy, and delicious. Great after church/football Sunday/fast as a flash meal!

Made this as per recipe. Quick, easy, and fantastic taste! Plan on making again. Found I was left with 2 tbs butter at the end. Added it after folding in the gnocchi which improved the taste. Will try adding to the drained gnocchi before incorporation the next time and see if that works better.

Nothing fancy, but delicious. I shredded a carrot for color and chopped the cabbage, because we like a little more texture. And I probably doubled the garlic and red pepper flakes. The larger pieces of cabbage required another 10 minutes of cooking. My husband loved the gnocchi with the cabbage. Thanks for this easy, delicious cabbage/gnocchi option!

I added European and standard thick cut bacon, and mild italian sausage to mine and it was wonderful. It was a hit with the family and everyone was left full and satisfied. This one is a definite do-again menu

Yes, I shredded carrots for color.

This is awesome! I had cabbage and carrots already done as I had made coleslaw a few days ago. My family really enjoyed this simple, yet tasty and fun for your mouth dish!
