Ingredients
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tablespoons butter, sliced
- 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large white onion, diced
- salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons whipping cream
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- ½ cup cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
- ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, cover potatoes with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Simmer on medium-high heat until the center of the potatoes are tender when pricked with a fork, about 25 minutes. Drain, and return potatoes to pot.
- Meanwhile, heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in onions, sprinkle with salt, and cook 5 minutes. Reduce heat to medium low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are a deep golden brown, about 20 minutes. Stir in brown sugar.
- Pour whipping cream over the potatoes, and mash with a large fork or potato masher. Stir in sour cream, cream cheese, soy sauce, Parmesan cheese, bouillon granules, and dried parsley. Stir in caramelized onions, and season with black pepper. Mix with an electric mixer until smooth. Reheat briefly over low heat, and serve.

The taste was great but they turned out a little thin. Either more potatoes or less soft ingredients.
My family loved these!
This recipe is by far the best mashed potato recipe I’ve ever made and it was a hit with everyone… The only thing that I did not use from the recipe was the chicken granules because I realized I did not have any and it was still fantastic
I made it exactly as per the recipie. Excellent. I will definitely make this again.
Awesome
This is my first time making mashed potatoes. I did make some small modifications as follows. 1) I wasn’t sure about using quite so much bouillon, so I tasted as I went along, and decided to go with less based on salt content. 2) I live in a country with limited potato selection (Morocco), so I had to use different potatoes. I don’t even know what they’re called. And 3) since our potatoes are a bit gooey and I cannot find a masher here, I used a fork and wooden spoon to mash, *not* an electric mixer, which I was afraid would make my tates too sticky. .. These modifications aside, I followed the recipe. With regard to bouillon, unless you have a low sodium option on hand, I’d ease in on that. Overall, I like this recipe a lot, and I bet I’ll make it again! The husband took a bit, looked confused, then said “mmm.” I guess that’s a win!
OMGoodness! I left out onions as we have picky eaters that don’t like them, so I used onion salt. These are the best mashed potato’s ever!
These mash potatoes were awesome! True to the name they are addictive, my wife says she only wants these mash potatoes from now on.. Can’t wait to make them for a family gathering..
The name says it all!! Highly addictive because they are so good. I made them exactly like the recipe except I crumble a chicken bouillon cube as I didn’t have granules. A big hit with my husband, too.
Made a double batch and used leftovers for gnocchi! Amazing!!
The name is totally appropriate … They are addictive. I made them for a family gathering and none were left. I made them for an office luncheon and none were left… Everybody…including the men…wanted the recipe. I followed the recipe as written. OMG
Made this twice , each time it was delicious each time. Made the potatoes with the skins on and added a little garlic to the onions after they were cooking for ten minutes or so.
Make these potatoes. Soy sauce is actually a pretty common ingredient I found out. These we’re amazing!
Amazing but we doubled the recipe and added a total of 10 ounces of cream cheese and 8 ounces of sour cream which it needed when your making so much if it!
I tried these for the first time 4 years ago for a family Christmas dinner. They were the biggest focus on the whole meal, unbelievably divine. I’m not much of a potatoes connoisseur but these are worth writing a review. We now reserve these potatoes for “Holiday Dinners” and family will down right request them, “are you making Addictive Potatoes!?” Please add them to your families traditional plates for Holiday Dinners, you won’t be disappointed. Oh…and don’t change a thing to the recipe, they are perfect!!! Thanks Laura from Alberta, Canada
I made these to go along with salisbury steaks, and the title is true, they really are addicting! lol. They have a very unique flavor.
try these and everyone thought they were just great. Cooked as written an received rave reviews. The one star rating it received was unjustified.
These were the best mashed potatoes I have EVER made/eaten. Don’t be discouraged by the long list of ingredients. This recipe is worth the time and effort! I left some of the skin on my potatoes for extra texture and flavor but other than that, i wouldn’t change a thing!
these potatoes taste like french onion chip dip. too much seasoning. too busy
Very tasty. I would skip the soy next time as it made for a rather unappealing colour.
I tried this out on my family and now I am REQUIRED to make them for EVERY holiday dinner – “Bring the potatos, or you can’t come!” ;o) I usually do a 3lb bag of potatos and kinda eyeball the amounts of added ingredients (whipping, cream, etc.) but they always come out great!!! Addictive, for sure!
