  4.7 – 149 reviews  • Salmon Fillet Recipes

In addition to salmon, this glaze tastes great on swordfish, halibut, tuna, and any other firm, flavorful fish.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 4 (8 ounce) fresh salmon fillets
  2. salt to taste
  3. ⅓ cup cold water
  4. ¼ cup seasoned rice vinegar
  5. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  6. 1 tablespoon hot chile paste (such as sambal oelek)
  7. 1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger
  8. 4 cloves garlic, minced
  9. 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  10. ¼ cup chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate.
  2. Season salmon fillets with salt.
  3. Place salmon on the preheated grill; cook salmon for 6 to 8 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Combine water, rice vinegar, brown sugar, chile paste, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  5. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer until barely thickened, about 2 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle basil on top of salmon; spoon glaze over basil.
  7. Aluminum foil helps keep food moist, ensures it cooks evenly, keeps leftovers fresh, and makes clean-up easy.

Loved how this turned out! Followed the recipe, marinated the salmon about thirty minutes in the sauce. Sauteed sliced orange bell, jalapeno and broccoli in some EVOO . Added the fish, pushing the veg to the side. About 3 min per side, then adding the reserved sauce, chopped green onions and shaved carrots, simmered till thick and fish done. Topped with the basil, seemed odd but did it anyway. Served over rice. Will do again.

This was great. I didn’t have fresh Basil so I used dried flakes. Not as pretty, but it worked.

This is a very easy to make salmon recipe, and delicious. I didn’t have any chili paste on hand, so after consulting some internet sources, used an equal amount of ketchup with added cayenne (add enough cayenne to meet taste preferences). I would definitely make this again.

I made my salmon in the air fryer. I found that my sauce wouldn’t thicken so I drizzled it over my rice and salmon. The flavors were delicious though, my boyfriend was a big fan!

I made this salmon on a cedar plank on the bbq. I put fresh lemon juice and olive oil on the salmon before putting it on the grill. I cooked the salmon on low for 40 min with the grill closed. I made the glaze for the most part as directed except I used the basil that comes in the tubes already cut up for you. I used the whole tube. The salmon and the glaze were fantastic. I will make this again.

This was so good! All night I was bragging about myself for making such a great meal! I used dried ingredients instead of fresh ginger and basil, since I didn’t have any. It came out delicious and was super easy to make.

My 1st time to make it. It was awesome and I even forgot the soy sauce and used “Fresh 4 weeks” a lightly dried basil I had left over from a previous recipe. Looking forward to making again!

Very good recipe that will be a quick go to in the future! Loved the flavors here, but I did find it to be too spicy for our tastes. However, I scaled the recipe down to 1 serving and noticed I’d like more sauce. Since it tasted spicy and a tad strong on ginger already, I simply added a little more of the other ingredients (everything except sambal, garlic, and ginger). Perfect! Thanks for the recipe suggestion Bibi and thanks too Chef John for such an easy and delicious salmon recipe!

This is an amazing glaze. Sweet and spicy! I grilled some fresh steelhead, topped it with this tasty glaze, served it with brown rice and asparagus. Everyone loved it.

Pretty sure this would be good on just about anything. I did not use basil but served the salmon with pan cooked baby bok choy which I cooked with ginger, garlic and a little bit of low sodium soy sauce. I ended up putting this glaze on everything on the plates. I’ll make it the next time I make broccoli or broccolini. It has a kick to it so adjust to preference. It’s really good.

I used chili sauce instead of paste, and cut the water back just a bit.

I used siracha instead of sambal for the hot sauce and I didn’t have basil on hand so I sprinkled sliced scallions on the top of the salmon. It was fantastic. Will definitely make it again.

Delicious!! Best salmon we’ve ever had! We will definitely make this dish again soon.

This got rave reviews from my hubby. Even though I forgot to heat the glaze, the flavors were delightful and similar to a Thai sweet and sour sauce. My only changes were to use half the amount of sambal oelek because it is VERY potent, and then blend the the glaze ingredients. I used twice the amount of basil because we love it and I had a lot of it. I will definitely make this recipe again, and will even use it to marinate chicken.

Chef John NEVER lets me down- this salmon was absolutely delicious !

This recipe is very easy to make. The fresh ginger gives it a nice flavor and the fresh basil adds interesting texture. This is great for a windowsill gardener like me. I will definitely make it again.

This is my favorite salmon recipe. I do add sesame oil to it as well. Otherwise, this is a great recipe!

I have made this recipe many times since 2014 and again on Easter Sunday. Everyone really enjoyed it. Thbe hot chili paste has a kick and I decreased to 3/4 Tbls.

Baked for 20 minutes, delicious flavor. 2nd time around cooked on the grill, 7 minutes per side, didn’t have chili paste so I used red pepper flakes, amazing flavor.
