Tuna Alfredo with Penne Pasta

  3.8 – 11 reviews  • Tuna

This creation of the family is a favorite. It simply needs three basic ingredients and is quick and simple. The entire family adores this dish and always rushes to the table when it is about to be served. Serve with garlic bread and either broccoli or a fresh salad.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 16 mins
Total Time: 26 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup penne pasta
  2. 24 ounces tuna, drained
  3. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  4. 1 pinch salt
  5. 1 (16 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
  6. 2 ounces grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil; add penne and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 11 minutes. Drain pasta; return to pot.
  2. Place tuna in a skillet over low heat; season with onion powder and salt. Cook until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Stir tuna into cooked pasta. Add Alfredo sauce; stir until combined. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Be careful not to overheat the Alfredo sauce — it will burn.

Since my husband doesn’t care for onions, I substituted in garlic salt and a dash of Italian seasoning. It was delicious!

Love this! Super yummy and low effort, so it’s perfect for a weeknight dinner. And since no one said it was supposed to be like tuna casserole, I wasn’t disappointed in the least. Great recipe!

Will make again. Measuring a cup of pasta caused the biggest fight of my relationship. The listed ratio between sauce, tuna, and pasta is strange. I used 12 oz of pasta, 2 jars of sauce (15 oz each), and the listed 24 oz—six cans—of tuna.

Tasted great, I substituted penne noodles for rainbow rotini but it worked out perfect. A simple and easy recipe

i prefer chicken rather than tuna

I added broccoli and sprinkled generously with fresh lime. Great flavor easy to make. Kids loved it

With a few variations, this was good. Since I didn’t have Alfredo sauce nor onion powder; I added garlic cloves and broccoli and then improvised with what I had for a plain white sauce, courtesy of a Blendtec recipe, of milk, butter, flour and salt—-reason I added garlic to the tuna. One of my better variations for not having right ingredients.

This was quick and delicious. I added some sautéed onions, peppers and mushrooms. I will definitely make this again.

The idea is wonderful. However, the measurements in this recipe seem very odd. We did 1 box of pasta, 2 small jars of Alfredo sauce, and 3 cans of tuna. It was a good ratio of noodles to sauce to tuna. We top it with Parmesan cheese and fried onions. We like to serve it with cheesy garlic bread as well.

What a handy recipe! I didn’t have alfredo sauce so made a rose by adding a bit of cream and chevre to a tomato sauce. Great comfort food and my family loved it.

I decided to use homemade pasta and homemade alfredo sauce. This isn’t like tuna casserole at all. The flavor isn’t horrible, but doesn’t have a wow factor. I don’t think using store bought pasta or sauce would have improved the outcome. Maybe add some veggies for a pop of color, or even herbs? I’m not sure. It was okay but not worth it to make it again.
