Yield: 8 to 12 servings

Ingredients

  1. 4 chicken-apple sausages, such as Aidells
  2. Two 8-ounce cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  3. 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  4. 1 cup sour cream
  5. 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan
  6. 3 tablespoons whole-grain mustard
  7. 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  8. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place parchment paper on a baking sheet and then place an 8-inch cake pan in the center to use as a guide for making the wreath.
  2. Cut each sausage in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 3 pieces. Cut the crescent rolls in half from the tip of the triangle to the center of the bottom (see Cook’s Note). Roll up each sausage piece in a crescent roll piece. Arrange the rolled sausages around the cake pan flat-side down and touching one another. Remove the cake pan. Egg wash the tops of the rolled sausages to help them stick them together.
  3. Bake the wreath until the dough is golden brown and puffed, 20 to 25 minutes. Let the wreath cool slightly.
  4. Meanwhile, make the Parmesan mustard dip: Mix the sour cream, Parmesan, mustard and chives together in a small bowl until well combined. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Slowly push the wreath off the parchment and onto a serving platter. Serve with the dip in the center.

I haven’t made this yet….but could you use little smokies instead of the sausage?

This was so easy, and SO yummy!  Next to my turkey, it was the hit of the party!  I couldn’t find the chicken sausage, so I just used a kielbasa.

Dipping sauce was just ok. The main dish was good!

Easy, fast, delicious. They disappear even with a big  Christmas dinner menu and LOTS of other hor d’oeuvres. I made them in the shape of a football for Super Bowl. The recipe, as written, halves the sausage, cuts it into thirds and then rolls it in a halved crescent roll. Everyone loves it, but for me it is too much sausage. So for Super Bowl I sliced the 1/2’d third again. That gave me a better bite with more bread, which actually cradled a bit more of the mustard dip. I baked them all on the same plate. Visually not much different. One night I took them to the dog park. The humans scarfed them up. No extra tender vittles for the pooches.

I used my own spaghetti sauce but used the recipe for the chicken and it was very good. The Oreo and cooking was not difficult. The bread crumb crust had good flavor. I will definitely make this again.

This was a big hit at my junior league holiday party this year. I made two platters and they disappeared instantly. It was extremely easy to make bake and I will be making these again tomorrow night for my bookclub holiday party. Thank you Trisha!

They would be great for the super bowl and game nite.
