Very simple and popular! Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, I prepare this spiced cranberry sauce. sour and hot! The spices merely enhance the dish’s overall festive atmosphere.

Ingredients
- ¾ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup water
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 dash ground cloves
- 1 dash ground nutmeg
- 1 dash ground allspice
- 1 (12 ounce) bag fresh cranberries
Instructions
- Heat orange juice and water in a saucepan over medium heat until warm, about 3 minutes. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Mix in cinnamon stick, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice. Add cranberries and cook, stirring occasionally, until they pop, about 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour sauce into a bowl. Cover and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
- Adjust spices and sugar to taste. I like mine spicy, so I usually add a bit more cinnamon. Add orange zest, if desired. Sweeten with 1 teaspoon of honey if you’d like it less tart.

Loved the orange and spiced flavors in this one. A pinch of ginger rounded it out. We cooked it a bit longer to make it more jellied.
I love this recipe! Such a nice detour from the same old cranberry mix of sugar and water. This recipe can be varied depending on individual tastes but there’s no doubt that the spices (nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves) are what makes this sauce stand out from the rest. Delicious!
12.21.20 There’s a lot of personal taste involved between the sugar and the spices, and for us, it was just too sweet. I cut sugar back to 2/3 cup, but in the future, will try 1/2 cup (maybe even 1/3), but that’s something easy to adapt. There’s a subtle orange juice flavor in the background, and the spices are good partners. Nice recipe, would make again.
