Originally it was so sweet, had to throw it out. Tried it the second time & I left out the cider vinegar. I put only 1/2 cup of brown sugar & it came out delicious! The apples all ready are naturally sweet so by cutting the sugar down really brought out the apple flavor. You can always add more sugar for your personal taste.

I made this with Golden Delicious. I followed the directions mostly, but I left out one cup of white sugar. I figured I’d add it later if need be, but it wasn’t needed! I have a sweet tooth and this is great as is!! (I used 1c brown and 2c white sugar) I have a 6qt crockpot and it couldn’t hold all 12lb of apples. I was able to just barely fit 3/4 I’d them so I simmered the last 1/4 on the stove top for about 20minutes, in 2T of apple cider vinegar and put 6T of acv in the crockpot. Once the stove top apples were mush, I was able to fit them in the crockpot. My crock cooks hot so I kept it on high for 4 hours before going to bed and left it on warm overnight (about 9 hours). In the morning, it looked awesome so I kept it on low all morning (another 6 hours). Then I added the spices and sugar and set it on low for 4 hours. It was a bit thinner than I wanted so I took the lid off and left it on low another hour. I pureed in a blender and water bath canned it (10min in boiling water, 5 min to rest off heat, remove from pot and don’t touch for 12 hours). It thickened up as it cooled and it’s FANTASTIC!!! I could, and have, just eaten it from the jar. All total, it made 7.5 pints! I canned it in half pint jars, and had 15! The ones not eaten by myself and kids will be gifts for Christmas. It’s amazing stuff!!

I actually completed mine in the Instant Pot. I also crushed pecans and added them from the beginning so that they would soften and cook the flavor into the apples. Friends & family cannot get enough!

The hardest part is peeling the apples. It is really good. I like it better than store bought. I’ve made it several times.

This is YUMMY for real apple pie lovers but it is really way too sweet for my taste and the first few I asked. I cut the sugar to 2 Tablespoons and tasted along the way adding 2 T of molasses and 2 T brown sugar to my taste. I pretty much doubled all the spices adding cardamom, ginger and some black pepper for snap. All in all a good groundbreaker recipe – here I am after two tries with some great stuff.

Yummy good apple butter recipe, definitely a keeper. Like a lot of other reviews, I only used half of the white sugar the rest of ingredients was per recipe.

Very simple to make and perfect blend of spices and sweetness. My family loves it!

I used a collection of apples from an urban fruit CSA and this was amazing. I did use about 1/3 the amount of sugar and added a knob of ginger during the cooking. I will definitely make again and use even less sugar.

First, I made the apple butter from the little apples on the old apple tree in our yard. Second, the aroma alone is worth the effort of making this. Third, it’s delicious enough to give as Christmas gifts this year. Delicious. I will make it again.

I absolutely LOVE this recipe – perfect comfort food. Just made a batch last week and canned it. Was able to make “no contact door-knob delivery” (with fresh baked bread) to local elderly. Great gift during Carona quarantine.

Truly delicious. Tip, blend the cooked apple butter prior to making it. It makes it super smooth.

I have made this recipe several times. I don’t use regular sugar. My husband was diabetic so I would use Splenda. I would also cook it for about an hour longer with the cover off to thicken it a little more. Easiest way to make Apple butter, and it taste great!

Little bit o’ heaven right there. Couldn’t wait too long, made a second batch. Recipe spot on with Gala apples.

I was afraid I would have way too much apple butter and since it was my first time making it, I cut the recipe in half and came out with 1 16oz jar that was wayyy too sweet and the clove was overpowering also. So I remade it the following weekend and before adding any sugar or cloves I added the jar I had and sweetened to taste, I would highly recommend cutting the sugar and clove in half and go from there. Other than that it was delicious and my husband and dad are gonna make themselves sick of Apple Butter!!!

I made this yesterday and it is amazing. I have a 6 quart crockpot and it fit about 8 pounds of apples. The store had granny smith and galas in the 5lb bags and that is what I used. I did not want mine too sweet so I did start with small amount of brown sugar and added to get the sweetness I preferred. It added up to about a cup. Also, I got tired of peeling all those apples so I cut the last half into smaller pieces. After they cooked I used the hand blender and you would never know the peels were included. Going to go buy another bag of apples and make a second batch. I would have given a 5 but I believe if I used all the sugar it called for it would be too sweet.
