Dry Buttermilk Ranch Mix

  4.6 – 88 reviews  • Ranch Dressing Recipes

I no longer purchase anything readymade. I have to be aware of my diet. One ingredient I miss is ranch dressing mix. I looked through a lot of recipes before choosing my favorite.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 10 mins
Servings: 20
Yield: 20 servings

Ingredients

  1. ¼ cup dry buttermilk powder
  2. 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  3. 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  4. 1 tablespoon dried chives
  5. ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  6. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  7. 1 teaspoon dried celery flakes
  8. ½ teaspoon white pepper
  9. ¼ teaspoon paprika
  10. ¼ teaspoon dried dill weed

Instructions

  1. Mix the buttermilk powder, dried onion, parsley, chives, salt, garlic powder, dried celery flakes, white pepper, paprika, and dill together, and store in a cool, dry place. For a finer texture, place ingredients in a blender and pulse several times.
  2. These ingredients are easy to play around with. If you like more salt, add more. I love garlic, but this amount might be too overpowering for some. I also like to add cayenne when I’m looking for a kick.
  3. To prepare the mix as salad dressing, whisk together in a mixing bowl with 2 cups of mayonnaise and 2 cups of milk until smooth.

Excellent! So much better than the mix in the package. I did up the salt to 1 tsp and lowered the garlic to 1/4. When it comes to preparing the dressing, I use mayonnaise and buttermilk, rather than plain milk. Nice tang and perfect blend of ingredients. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!

Instead of worrying about finding buttermilk powder, I just used part buttermilk for the liquid.

This is my go to for Ranch. I absolutely hate ranch dressing of any kind but this tastes nothing like any you can buy.

It was great but needed a little bite, so I added a tablespoon of Rice Vinegar and that did the trick. I also used real buttermilk instead of dry. All in all it’s a keeper.

It was a good base. I added more garlic, dill and paprika. Also dried some minced fresh onion and celery on the stove top and it really added some zip!

Very good, but it does have to be refrigerated if you use dried buttermilk.

I have some heart problems so I need to watch my salt intake (among other things). I like this recipe because it is very low in salt. I buy unsalted nuts, put them in a container, add some ranch mix and shake.

Are you kidding me!! This was fantastic and very easy to make. Never buying ranch mix again from a package.

It’s good, but there’s something missing that I can’t pinpoint. It’s an awesome base recipe for a dip or salad dressing, but it doesn’t taste quite like ranch to me – that’s the reason I took off a star. If you’re looking for delicious and herby, it’s worth 5 stars. Definitely let it hang out in the fridge overnight so the flavors can meld.

does not taste anything like ranch dip. so much taste missing!

I needed dry ranch dressing for a slow cooker pot roast recipe. I threw this in instead and it was amazing. Have no idea if it makes a good salad dressing.

This is a great recipe. I always need ranch dressing and forget to buy it. The package dry dressing is a little salty. This is perfect. I use it for making a dip for vegetables. Thanks for such a great treat!

I did not think this had any flavor to it at all. I even made it a 2nc time and played around with the ingredient. Sorry I just did not like it .

Yes! Thank you! This mix is great. My ratio for mixing is 2 tablespoons per cup of base for dressing and 3+/- tablespoons for dip. Dips using Yogurt as a base needs a little more, sour cream needs a little less. When making a dressing I add a splash of Worcestershire Sauce. My question to anyone is this, if the carton of buttermilk powder states to refrigerate after opening, does the ranch seasoning mix needs to be refrigerated?

I have been using this forever now great recipe if you don’t have buttermilk just substitute with finely ground saltines works like a charm!!!

Easy and yummy!! I cut the milk to a cup and subbed half the mayo for nonfat Greek yogurt. I used it with wings.

Thank you for Sharing ! Love the mix and without all the added non essentials is a win win win!

I liked it. I needed it as an ingredient for a slow cooked chicken breast recipe that is topped with cream cheese and ranch mix and then slow cooked for 4 hrs. Great flavor. The boxed mix has msg in it which some of the family can’t tolerate.

I made this and packaged in 3 Tbs. serving pouches. Gave directions to mix packet with 16 Oz. Sour Cream, 1/2 Cup Mayo, & 2 tsp. Lemon Juice. Refrigerate for 2 hours and enjoy!

I admit we modify the recipe pretty significantly, but we are so thankful we found this recipe! My husband is a huge fan of Ranch dip but needed something much lower in sodium than our name-brand mix. We make this mix without the dry Buttermilk and without the salt. Both of those add too much sodium for his diet. With that change, we multiple everything in the recipe (except the onion!) by 4 and use 3 tbs at a time to mix with sour cream to make Ranch dip. With those changes, it is definitely different than the name-brand mix, but it satisfies his Ranch NEED! Thanks so much for the recipe.
