Ingredients

  2. 1 (46 fluid ounce) bottle ketchup
  3. 2 cups blackberry jelly
  4. 2 cups white sugar
  5. 1 cup raspberry balsamic vinegar
  6. 1 cup light corn syrup
  7. 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  8. ½ cup frozen limeade concentrate
  9. ½ cup cider vinegar
  10. 2 tablespoons finely ground sea salt
  11. 2 tablespoons bourbon whiskey
  12. 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  13. 2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
  14. 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  15. 1 tablespoon ground dried chipotle pepper
  16. 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  17. 1 tablespoon finely ground black pepper
  18. 1 teaspoon teriyaki sauce
  19. 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  20. 3 habanero peppers

Instructions

  1. Combine blackberries, ketchup, blackberry jelly, sugar, raspberry balsamic vinegar, corn syrup, tomato paste, limeade concentrate, cider vinegar, salt, bourbon, garlic powder, liquid smoke, ginger, ground chipotle pepper, red pepper flakes, black pepper, teriyaki sauce, and hot pepper sauce in a large pot and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer blackberry mixture for 10 minutes. Add whole habanero peppers and continue to simmer until sauce is thickened, about 20 minutes more. Remove and discard habanero peppers.
  3. Pour barbecue sauce into a blender no more than half full. Cover and hold lid down; pulse a few times before leaving on to blend. Puree in batches until smooth.
  4. VERY IMPORTANT– Due to the heat of habaneros, do not cut the peppers. They are to be “floated” in the sauce. Use caution handling peppers as well.

Really good and easy to make. A bit too much ketchup taste.

Made a half batch. Very flavorful bbq sauce with just enough heat. Used on smoked wings. Plan to thin with Dr. Pepper or Coke to use as a glaze on grilled salmon. If you want more heat as my son does, I added the two habaneros used in sauce for simmering and two more when blending. I then strained to get blackberry oulp and habanero pulp and seeds out. That liked it up several notches.

This is an outstanding BBQ sauce. I added more hàbanero peppers and mixed them in with the immersion blender to suit my personal preference. I also had to use jam because I couldn’t find blackberry jelly. It appeared to look like an unusual combination of ingredients but something wonderful happened when they were heated and mixed together. Sweet fruity flavour followed by heat.

I did sub blueberries for the fresh blackberries, but otherwise followed the recipe. We really enjoyed this bbq especially on the grill with chicken. It’s got great flavor and good heat.

This turned out great. Went very well with pork tenderloins off the smoker. This recipe will make it to my keep list.

This is darn good. It’s got an ingredients list as long as my arm, but it’s definitely worth the time and preparation. I used it on some ground turkey meatballs. It is tangy, spicy and with a perfect touch of sweet from the fruit. The kids enjoyed it too. Thank you for the recipe.
