I adore Mexican food but find that a lot of it is too spicy for me, so I came up with this fantastic, mildly spiced recipe for folded chicken tacos.

Great recipe. Perfect ratio of cocoa and sugar.
Yummy! It started to thicken too much so I added more butter. And for taste I added about 1 tsp of salt.
This too is the same recipe that my grandmother handed down to me that her mother had handed down to her for generations now. The only change that I made was not adding the vanilla, in my grandmother’s recipe it did not call for vanilla. My grandmother told me that the recipe had come from the Great Depression era that they only used 5 ingredients then & those 5 ingredients were flower, sugar, cocoa, water, & butter, So it was cheap to make, filling, and went a long ways to feed everybody in the family.
Loved it. Made it for my Sunday school class
I’ve made it several times when I am craving something sweet. It’s really good, easy to make and affordable! Be patient when making. I stirred the whole time, on and off moving the temp up and down and for about a minute took off of the burner to stir. I then took the heat down and let it bubble, stir, bubble, stir and it ended up being a thick gravy consistency. Just be patient. It’s worth it!
It’s great! Just like my grandmother used to make when I was a child!
I made the recipe before reading the comments. My mom and grandma made this once a month growing up and still to this day. But would never tell me the recipe. Because they never wrote it down. With that being said. It was always hit or miss if it was going to be smooth. But this is a good base for making perfect chocolate gravy…
This recipe was perfect!!!! I use to pick this as my birthday breakfast as a kid. So this year I decided to treat myself. I even tried it with Almond milk instead of regular and it was just as AMAZING!! Just like I remember!
It was very bland. I had to add more sugar, cocoa, and salt.
It turned out perfect. I halved the recipe because I only have 2 people in my home and made the right amount with limited leftover. I try to keep food waste down in our home.
my aunt makes the best chocolate gravy in the world i had them in biscuits and it was so good whoever thought of this they did a good job of inventing this. i made it with my aunt and it was my first time trying it
Perfect! I never had precise measurements on this. I always made it too thin. We love it!
This is pretty much perfect. I added some salt to complement the sweetness, but overall flavor was good. I thought it was odd to put butter in at the end, but following the instructions will give you a nice smooth, saucy gravy that is just thin enough to ladle over biscuits. I made this for Christmas Eve breakfast and I thought my in-laws were going to lick the pan. The second time I made this I tried starting with a roux (more like traditional gravy) and found the butter to powder ratio isn’t quite right for that and I ended up with lumps. Just follow the recipe.
I grew up on chocolate gravy. Both my mother and grandmother made it, but never recorded a recipe. I make this recipe every Christmas for our family. Doubled the recipe, added a few shakes of salt, and more butter. Sifted ingredients together prior to adding the milk and stirred continuously. It is delicious. My son-in-law suggested adding a bit of coffee next time around. Might try that.
I have made this a few times. My kid and I love it. I will add in a tablespoon of strong coffee if I have it: it just enhances chocolate flavor.
My husband loves this recipe! I substituted with all purpose gluten free flour because that’s what I had on hand, and reduced sugar from 3/4 cup down to 1/4 cup. Still sweet enough for him!
Fantastic and whoever’s recipe it is thank you my family enjoyed it and may all have a God blessed day
The best texture and taste! I was cooking for several families, so I doubled the recipe. Everyone loved it!
I adjusted the recommendation for doubling the cocoa and adding salt and a bit more butter and it was perfect I don’t think it wouldve been that good if i hadnt made the adjustment
Loved it
I made this with a couple adjustments and is now my hubbies new comfort food FAV. I ADDED JUST over 1/4 tsp salt (meaning the tiny 1/4 tsp measuring spoon was rounded not leveled. I also did this with 1/2 cup cocoa and rest as listed. It was great, we like the strong cocoa calms sweet to perfect.
