Arrabbiata Sauce

  4.5 – 330 reviews  • Tomato

Due to the reduced dressing, this delectable, creamy coleslaw is kind to your waistline. The salad is nicely sweetened by the inclusion of apples (Granny Smith and Macintoshes are great!) and carrots.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 3 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 teaspoon olive oil
  2. 1 cup chopped onion
  3. 4 cloves garlic, minced
  4. 2 (14.5 ounce) cans peeled and diced tomatoes
  5. ⅜ cup red wine
  6. 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  7. 1 tablespoon white sugar
  8. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  9. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  10. 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  11. ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  12. ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  13. 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  2. Stir in diced tomatoes, wine, tomato paste, sugar, basil, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and black pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for about 15 minutes.
  3. Stir in parsley. Ladle sauce over hot cooked pasta of your choice.

No red wine vinegar or chilli flakes

Loved this. Few changes that I thought made it perfect: -No sugar -Sauteed mushrooms and cherry peppers with the onion and garlic

This was very good and easy to make. I served it over ricotta gnocchi (recipe on this site).

My family loved this recipe. I added crushed tomatoes for a smoother texture, more chili pepper flakes and zero sugar. It turned out so great that they requested it for dinner tonight

Awesome sauce! No changes needed. Made with sweet Italian sausage and it was delicious!!! Will make again and again!

This is delicious. All it needs is salt. Served over penne pasta and chicken. Yum!

I simmered the canned tomatoes, onions and garlic for about an hour then puréed the mix, because I prefer a smoother sauce. But that is the only change, and we loved this. Just the right amount of spicy for us. We served it over Italian sausage ravioli.

This was really easy to make. I added a Italian hot pepper in the sauce to make it spicier. Perfect.

I always read reviews but this is my first. I don’t feel you can judge a recipe unless you make it exactly as stated. And I confess, I did make a few changes, but only after tasting…added a bit more garlic and basil because we like those flavors. Sauce was solid, I got just a bit worried at the end, tasted just a bit flat and I wanted to add salt, talked myself out of it knowing my pasta was salted and was adding parmesan on top…don’t add salt if you’ve properly salted your pasta and adding a salty cheese. My boyfriend who said he wouldn’t be able to eat it all, cleaned his plate and went in for one last spoonful of pasta. Thanks for the great recipe!

It seemed a bit dull tome

Great sauce. I substituted one can of diced tomatoes for a can of rotel original. I also added a lot more cayenne pepper. Served it over grilled shrimp and air fryer potatoes. Very very good

We loved this! I reduced the sugar by half and used 1/2 of the red pepper flakes and subbed chili paste for the other half. It was the perfect spice level. We added homemade Italian sausage and cubed sopressatta. Yum!

Quite good!

only change was I substituted agave for sugar. The sauce is full of flavor, thick and rich and I will absolutely make again.

definately make it again

Great recipe…..have made it about half a dozen times. I have modified it slightly over time. The combination of the Crushed Red Pepper Flakes and Black Pepper a little too overwhelming so I go with just the Flakes. Second if using lemon concentrate the 1 tablespoon of lemon juice is too strong…I reduced that to 1/4 teaspoon. Lastly I like mine a little more smooth so a 50/50 mixture of Diced and Crushed peppers does the trick.

This was a hit for us tonight, I made it with shrimp. Even the hubby wanted 2nds.

Very good. Very spicy. I’d probably half the red pepper flakes next time. I simmered for about an hour and that may have been too long. But hubby was late, so……

6.17.19 … https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/11839/arrabbiata-sauce/… I made three sauces tonight – this, Christine L’s Amatriciana, Chef John’s Spicy Sausage Ragu. All were good. This was the most spicy comparatively, mildly hot. E, 22, rated this second place, but thought it was too spicy. I liked it, but it wasn’t amazing. I omitted the lemon juice & subbed sauce for the tomatoes.
