Ingredients

  1. 1 (20-ounce) can tomato sauce
  2. 1 cup peach preserves
  3. 1 cup chili sauce
  4. 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  5. 1/2 orange, zested and juiced
  6. 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  7. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  8. 1 tablespoon Neely Dry Rub
  9. 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
  10. 1 shallot, minced
  11. 1 cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
  12. 1 cup grated Parmesan
  13. 1 large egg, beaten
  14. 1 tablespoon finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
  15. Pinch of red pepper flakes
  16. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. For the sweet and sour sauce: Mix the tomato sauce, peach preserves, chili sauce, sugar, orange zest, orange juice, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and Neely Dry Rub in a medium saucepan. Simmer while you prepare the meatballs.
  3. For the meatballs: Combine the turkey, shallot, panko, Parmesan, egg, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper together in a large bowl and mix well. Shape the mixture into the size of walnuts and place in a single layer in a 13-by-9-inch casserole dish.
  4. Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the meatballs, cover with foil, and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake 10 minutes more. Serve with decorative bamboo toothpicks.

Easy and big hit at Superbowl party!

These were a hit a party I had last weekend! Everyone loved them! I doubled the recipe and actually cooked the meatballs separately for a little bit, and then put the sauce and meatballs in a crock pot to keep warm. Very good!

I love the meatball recipe! Of course, I put a little spin on them with some additional seasonings. They were so delicious that I had to make myself stop eating them. I didn’t make the sweet & sour sauce because I didn’t have all the ingredients so my review is just for the meatballs. I made a spicy sour cream dipping sauce. The meatballs & my dipping sauce wwere great together..

I made these for a family party and they were a bit hit, very simple to make. I will gladly make these again, but will probably reduce the amount of sauce and use something more commonly available than the apricot preserves.

I feel like I need to rate the meatball separately from the sauce. The sauce was not my cup of tea. The flavors were weird together. It was not gross, but not something I will make again. The meatball itself though was really good. I could really taste the parmesian cheese and they weren’t dry at all. I would definitely make the meatball exactly as stated again.

I made these last night after watching the episode. I used two eggs instead of 1 b/c there was so much panko and parmesan in the mix. I also added a few sprinkles of smoked paprika and a few sprinkles of cumin because I love thoese spices. I wanted to try these meatballs because I was curious as to how the Sweet and Sour Sauce would turn out. Next time I will trying preparing this with 1/2 cup of chilli sauce as opposed to 1 cup. Over all, it turned out good. I made some sphaghetti and turned this into a sphaghetti and meatball dinner.
