This bacon-topped broccoli salad is wonderful! Anyone who does not like broccoli will end up liking it after trying a taste.

Ingredients

  1. 12 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  2. 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets
  3. 1 cup raisins
  4. 1 small red onion, chopped
  5. ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  6. ½ cup mayonnaise
  7. ⅓ cup white sugar
  8. 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

Instructions

  1. Combine bacon, broccoli, raisins, onion, and sunflower seeds in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk mayonnaise, sugar, and red wine vinegar together in a small bowl until dressing is smooth; pour over broccoli mixture and stir to coat.

Easy to make. Very tasty. Was a picnic favorite. Everyone loved it. I substituted the red wine with rice vinegar and the white sugar with Stevia (just 1 tsp was enough with the amount of raisins in the salad) and added sliced almonds too. Surely will make it again.

I cut back the sugar a bit. Probably added to the bacon since my husband and sons love it! I’ve made this recipe or close to it for probably 30 years and it is always a favorite! I peel the heavy part of the skin from the broccoli stems to make it tender to eat raw though.

Love it! It’s quick and easy to make. I have taken it to several functions and everybody loves it! For myself, I’m trying to stay low carb, so I use sugar substitute . The other thing I do is apple cider vinegar. It’s delicious, I have some in my fridge right now.

Delicious! I did follow the suggetion of others and cut the sugar back to 3 tablespoons and am glad I did. With the addition of craisins, that amount of sugar made it plenty sweet for my tastebuds, but I suppose that can vary. Other than, I made this recipe as stated and it will be in the rotation for sure. Very good and easy to make as well!

Received Rave Reviews and requests for the recipe! I did cut down the sugar to 1 Tablespoon of Swerve Sugar Replacement so I would have no “added” sugars. I also let the red onions sit in ice water for 20 minutes to reduce any bitter taste. It does taste best after a few hours marinating in the fridge. It was served alongside pulled pork, bar-b-q ribs, and homemade mac n cheese. Great Recipe!!

I made this tonight. Big hit. I had to make a couple of changes. I didn’t have sunflower seeds so I used pecans. I also used Splenda instead of sugar. We don’t eat much sugar. I only had 5 pieces of thick bacon, more would have been better, but that’s all I had. I’ll use more next time. All in all it was still very good. We do group dinners at our cabin, so this is something we could make that everyone can eat.

Too much mayo and way too much sugar. Made it again with 1/2 cup of mayo and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Tasted much better and not soupy at the bottom. Still used 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar. Needed the acid with the sugar.

OMG this salad was so good. I usually do not care for raw broccoli, but I couldn’t get enough in this dish. I added a pint of grape tomatoes that I cut in half, and substituted cashews for sunflower seeds. Delicious!

I used two heads of broccoli, and I substituted miracle whip for the mayonnaise. I accidentally put in walnuts instead of sunflower seeds, but it was great!

I make this ALL THE TIME it’s my go to receipe for potlucks and bbq’s, I do cut down on the sugar and I use unsalted sunflower seeds, I receive compliments all the time. LOVE THIS RECEIPE!!!!
