Ingredients
- 4 large cucumbers, sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon dried dill weed
- 1 cup white sugar
- ½ cup white vinegar
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt (Optional)
Instructions
- Combine cucumbers, onion, and dill in a large serving bowl.
- Combine sugar, vinegar, water, and salt in a medium bowl; stir until sugar dissolves.
- Pour vinegar mixture over cucumber mixture. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving
- The longer this dish marinates in the refrigerator, the tastier it is.

Very delicious and crisp! I used raw sugar instead of white sugar and added a few herb seasoning with chives and shallots. Also used fresh dill instead of dried.
I’m in love with this recipe! I tweaked it slightly. I used 2 cucumbers, 1/2 white onion and reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup based on others comments of 1 cup being to much. The dill, vinegar and water amounts I kept the same as the recipe stated. I sprinkled salt and pepper as well as onion salt and garlic salt on my cukes and onions before adding the liquid mixture. I also added a few cherry tomatoes for color.

This recipe is too sweet for me. The vinegar should be increased and the sugar decreased a lot.

Love this recipe . . . and I’ve never really been a fan of cucumbers! But, I’m a convert now and this recipe is perfect as a side dish. The only thing I do differently is replace the sugar with Stevia to bring down the calories.
I’ve been making a version of this recipe for years but I have to say that I absolutely LOVE it with the dill weed. Besides the dill weed addition, yours is so much better than mine. I’m not too proud to admit it. lol Thank you for my new recipe!

This was a huge hit at our church picnic. I think it was on the sweeter side but it was still good. I’m going to lessen the sugar next time!!!!!
I prepared the recipe for a potluck and everyone loved it! I had reviewed the comments of others and made the following modifications: sprinkled salt on the sliced cucumbers and let sit for 20 mins, didn’t add water as plenty of liquid seeped from the cucumbers, used fresh dill, and cut sugar quantity’s in half.
Nice and simple! It made such a great addition to the usual scrambled egg breakfast burrito, that I had to make it again. As a side ingredient, to a Buddha bowl, it made for a great variation

This was WAY too sweet . I listened to other reviewers and cut the sugar in half. Even then it was too sweet and I had to add more vinegar and water. I like the simplicity of the recipe. With adjustments I think it is a keeper.
Loved it! I used cider vinegar and Stevia instead of water and sugar since I need to watch my sugar intake.
This was a last minute thought/dish so I served it approx 2 hrs after making and it was still a hit. Better the next day after marinated overnight. Followed the recipe except used celery seed instead of dill (because that’s what I had). Keeper. Thank you for sharing.
