This recipe calls for sparkling wine. If you’re celebrating, a bottle of champagne is just the thing, but if you’re on a budget, use cheaper prosecco. With all the other flavors in this recipe, it will be hard to tell the difference.

Ingredients
- 2 segments blood orange
- 2 basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 5 ounces sparkling wine, such as prosecco
- 4 ounces blood orange Italian soda
- Blood orange wheel, to garnish
Instructions
- Add the blood orange segments, basil and sugar to the bottom of a glass. Using the bottom of a wooden spoon, smash the orange, basil and sugar together; this will help release the flavor of the basil. Add the sparkling wine, then the blood orange soda and stir to combine. Top up with ice. Garnish with a blood orange wheel and enjoy.

So refreshing on a warm day. Had no problem finding blood oranges and the soda.
So refreshing! I couldn’t get blood orange Italian soda so I used grapefruit Italian soda. It was a good substitute. I highly recommend it!
