Ingredients
- 1 (8 ounce) bone-in fully cooked ham steak
- 5 tablespoons butter, cubed
- 5 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
- Cook ham steak in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- Remove ham from skillet; drain off any fat.
- Melt butter in the same skillet over medium-low heat. Stir in brown sugar.
- Return ham to skillet. Cook, turning ham often, until heated through and brown sugar has dissolved, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat if brown sugar/butter mixture starts to pop or splatter.

My first making a ham steak ever! Yes, I could imagine what this would taste like; the flavor profile is familiar- but! It was better than I expected – plus super easy and super quick. Easy, quick & delicious.
I have been making ham steaks for years. This was just wonderful and so easy to make! Always tender. Sometimes I will add cloves and pineapple. My family loves it either with or without the added cloves and pineapple, depends if I have it on hand.

I braved it and did it. Took way longer to cook since I had a really thick ham steak. I also cut down butter and sugar to 4 tbs each and it worked out fine. Was looking for something like this and I’m glad I found your recipe.
Absolutely delicious! Like other’s mentioned, I just used enough butter to coat bottom of pan. THen Sprinkled brown sugar on each side of ham and cooked a few minutes on each side

It’s very good. My problem was the brown sugar did not dissolve totally. So some of it got hard. I don’t know what I did wrong because I followed the recipe exactly.
We thought this was delicious., easy, and fast. The ham was not dry and the glaze was good. The glaze had a little sweetness without being overly sweet. I didn’t cover the ham with water. I put the water level half way up the ham steak. I lined a sheet pan with foil and made a foil packet to hold the ham, glaze, and water. It worked well with this ham and made clean up easy.
I’d lower the cooking time to 1-2 min each side as it was getting…a little too cooked. 5 tablespoons of brown sugar and butter is WAY too much. Definitely need to tone it down to 1 or 0.5.

I was scrolling through trying to find something to make for dinner tonight and seen this. I’ve been making this for many years and somewhat in the same way. The only difference I do is I add a touch of ground cumin and honey to the brown sugar. I also at times add pineapple to the pan. Happy creative cooking!
Served with scalloped potatoes and it was an excellent meal for a low effort dish that was on the table in less than 30 minutes. Had a ham steak in the fridge that I usually use for breakfasts, so it was a nice unexpected comfort meal. Also, the sauce seemed to cut the saltiness of the ham.
