I made it but did not put brown sugar over them, after baking, I put some of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce. They were a huge hit!
I kick it up by mixing cayenne with the brown sugar for a hot spicy sweet n savory
These things steal the show! There are big hit at any party I have ever brought them to. I cook them on a rack so they aren’t laying in the grease, makes a big difference for those who complained they were too greasy.
Simple but delicious
When I make these I cook them at 350 degrees for 40-45 min, and I also place these on cookie cooling racks and then place them on my foil lined cookie sheets. This allows the grease to drip on the pan and the smokies aren’t sitting in the grease. These are a big hit at our church fellowships as I am always being asked to bring them.
Made a double batch today (first time) for a party at my cousin’s – it was a big hit! Made it exactly as described in the recipe, but I had to cook them longer than recipe said (probably just the way my oven works) and kept them warm in a crock pot before the party. No leftovers. We’ll be making this one again – no doubt! ********************************* Update: made ’em again today – this time I took another reviewer’s suggestion (Thanks Tiffany!) and “sugared” both sides of the bacon before wrapping the weiners instead of trying to sprinkle brown sugar all over them. I think it worked out better because there weren’t “globs” of brown sugar all over the baking sheet and improved presentation value of the smokies themselves. Also cooked them on a rack to let the fat drip and the smokies weren’t sitting in grease (thanks for that suggestion, femalemailman!)
I cook bacon wrapped smokies for 20 min at 380. then coat with brown sugar and bake for 10 min. Bacon is not drispy if coat first.
I add a lot more brown sugar on top and bake them using a broiler pan to let the bacon fat fall through. Otherwise I’ve found they tend to swim in the fat from the bacon.
I made this recipe as it was written. I could have tripled it and still wouldn’t be enough. The hit of the party for sure !
Great appetizer! I get asked to bring it to parties. I use a 13×9 glass pan and don’t line it at all. I try to make it ahead of time before I cook it to let the sugar marinate a little. Then add a little more sugar before I bake it. Easy and yummy!
Made it for the 4th of July and the whole family loved them!!!
Made this for a patio party and they disappeared! Great appetizer!
My coworker brings these to work potlucks, so I had to make them for the fam. They all loved it!
Absolutely delicious, we kept them warm all evening in the slow cooker and I’m already getting requests for a double batch next time.
This was an absolute hit… deliciously sweet and savory simultaneously. The caramelization of the bacon was decadent… lifted the dish to a higher palate!
I followed a lot of the other user suggestions. I think maybe having the oven at a higher temp might have helped get them slightly crispier but they were generally very good.
Thank you!
Took a few other’s suggestions: Partly cook bacon (4 min in microwave). Cut into thirds, and wrap smokies. Place in bowl or ziplock bag, sprinkle with brown sugar, 2 T water and stir. Leave in fridge overnight then cook as directed. Thank you, jill1018!
I baked on 350 degrees, 20 minutes on one side and 14 minutes on the other side. I coated both sides of bacon with brown sugar before rolling. Use center cut bacon and cut in half. These make a yummy snack and are very easy! Serve with any kind of mustard. I did not put in crockpot and be sure to spray pan!
Every time I make these people want to know the recipe for the “meat candy.” No dipping sauce needed! Gone in seconds…
Always a favorite I just covuldn’t remember the temperature and had to look up the recipe.
