Applesauce with pork chops with glaze.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 45 mins
Total Time: 1 hr
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  1. 1 tablespoon butter
  2. 1 apple – peeled, cored, and sliced
  3. ¼ cup chopped onion
  4. 2 (1/2-inch thick) pork chops
  5. ½ teaspoon salt
  6. ground black pepper to taste
  7. ¾ cup applesauce
  8. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  9. ½ teaspoon ground mustard
  10. ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; cook and stir apple and onion in melted butter until tender, about 5 minutes. Transfer apple and onion mixture to a bowl.
  3. Place pork chops in the same skillet over medium heat; cook until pork chops are browned, about 5 minutes per side. Place pork chops in a 9×9-inch baking dish; season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Mix applesauce, brown sugar, mustard, and cinnamon into apple and onion mixture. Spoon over pork chops.
  5. Bake, covered, in the preheated oven until pork chops are no longer pink in the center, 30 to 45 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).

Loved it! I did make two boneless pork chops, but ate one before I sat down to do this review. That’s why there’s only one pork chop in the pan. I followed the recipe for the most part, but added a tablespoon of barbecue sauce, as suggested by another reviewer. I also added a dash of teriyaki sauce. I only had cinnamon applesauce, but don’t think that changed the taste very much. Didn’t have mustard powder, so I left it out. I always like applesauce when I have pork chops but the apples and the sauce in this recipe definitely enhanced the flavor. I seasoned the pork chops with salt pepper and a little garlic powder before browning them. I am adding this to my recipe collection and will definitely be making it again.

I have made this two times and it has turned out to be a weekly recipe. It’s a straight forward recipe, which also makes it easier to cook. Tammy A

Cooked 1″ boneless pork chops according to the recipe except reduced oven time to 20 minutes. Brown them for a minute or two on high. Otherwise the pork chops will be cooked before they go into the oven. The pork chops were perfectly cooked, juicy, and tender. For the apples we used Granny Smith apples and they were perfect for this dish.

For my family, we would like it a little spicier. Going to try that next time.

Tasty and simple to make. I sometimes like to sub pears for the apples.

After reading all the ingredients I felt the need to change a few things. Less sugar, more mustard, less applesauce and shorter cooking time. “Searing” is always a challenge with pork and I did it for a longer time than necessary. Because of that I shortened the cooking time to 20 minutes (no need for chops to cook for 40 minutes at 375). They came out nice not dry but a tad tough. Hubby loved it. Served in with a cabbage/apple/onion side.

Made this several times always comes out good. I even made it with 16 large chops for a big family dinner. It was really easy. I had potatoes and gravy with it. They ate everything so I believe they liked it!

I’ve made this recipe several times and the only change I’ve made is doubling it to get 2 meals.

I’ve made this twice, last time I doubled the apples. Very tasty dish.

I’ve made these several times and I’ll let you in on a secret… add 1/4 bbq sauce to the applesauce mixture and they turn out EVEN BETTER!

Easy and Tasty! I served it with a stuffing mix to which I added lightly sauteed onions, mushrooms and bell pepper.

I boiled up some perogies, added these to the dish and smothered them with the sauce and then let the dish cook for its last 5 minutes. YUM!

So good! I’d never thought to cook pork chops with the applesauce rather than having it as a condiment, but this is definitely a keeper. It just adds an extra zing, especially if you have your own applesauce in the freezer, ready to go.

I this was the easiest ever and still taste as if I slaved over it all day. Husband loved it, me is very hard to please.

I doubled the recipe using 4 chops, 2 apples, 1/2 C. onion and so forth. It turned out great. Very flavorful. I used homemade applesauce that I had made a few days ago. I will use this recipe again, thank you for sharing.

My teenager loved it and that’s winning! I recommend seasoning the pork chops before putting them in the skillet. I also used Dijon mustard as an alternate because that’s what we had at home. Halfway through the oven time as the apple mixture cooked down I spooned it back on top. Will definitely do this again!

The onions and apples are so tasty on top, and by cooking it covered the pork chops were so tender. I made it with fried corn, fried potatoes cubes and peppers

25 minutes for thinner pork chops.

These were the most tender pork chops I have ever made! They were very moist and flavorful. The prep wasn’t too bad either. I added a dash of salt at the table. I am 100% making these again.
