Steak and Cola Pizza

Ingredients

  1. One 12-ounce can cola
  2. 4 ounces Italian dressing
  3. 1 ounce garlic, chopped
  4. 1 ounce soy sauce
  5. 1/2 ounce salt
  6. 1/2 ounce ground pepper
  7. 2 pounds shaved steak
  8. One 20-ounce pizza dough ball
  9. 8 slices provolone
  10. 2 handfuls shredded smoked mozzarella
  11. 1 cup Caramelized Onions, recipe follows
  12. 1 cup Gorgonzola cheese
  13. 3 tablespoons butter
  14. 1 cup olive oil
  15. 3 large white onions
  16. 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. For the marinated steak: Mix the cola, dressing, garlic, soy sauce, salt and pepper in a bowl. Add the steak. Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours and up to overnight.
  2. For the pizza: Preheat the oven to 550 degrees F.
  3. Stretch the dough ball into an 18-inch round.
  4. Layer the provolone slices across the dough, then scatter the mozzarella evenly across the top. Spread the shaved steak evenly across the pie in globs. Spread Caramelized Onions evenly across pie. Crumble Gorgonzola and scatter on top.
  5. Bake until crust is golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Heat butter and some olive oil in a large pan over medium-low heat. Add onions and top with brown sugar. Let cook, adding a little oil as needed and stirring occasionally, until golden, about 45 minutes.
