Ingredients
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 4 ounces semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped and melted
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- Pinch of kosher salt
- One 9-inch chocolate graham cracker crust
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Chocolate shavings, for garnish
Instructions
- For the pie: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, butter and brown sugar with a mixer or a whisk. Beat in the eggs and mix until well incorporated, about 1 minute. Stir in the melted chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa and salt; fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture. Pour into the pie shell and bake until set, 30 to 40 minutes. Let cool to room temperature.
- For the whipped cream: In a stand mixer, whisk the heavy cream on medium speed until peaks begin to form. Add the confectioners’ sugar, bourbon, vanilla and cream of tartar. Continue to whisk until the cream begins to hold medium firm peaks.
- Spread the whipped cream over the pie and garnish with chocolate shavings.

Delish… definitely a rich boozy flavor but so yummy. And the whipped cream was perfect.
This was very yummy, but extremely rich. I did alter the recipe slightly. I used a regular graham cracker crust, and I used milk in place of the bourbon.
So I could not find a pre-made chocolate graham cracker crust; therefore, I made one from scratch. I used Buffalo Trace Bourbon and the pie was devoured by my family! We all bourbon and thought the flavor was delicious! Wonderful dessert on Father’s Day! Will definitely make this again!
Tried it like most comments very boozy for most people’s taste. I’ll half the liquor next time and maybe use milk for the other half
Love this recipe. It’s very boozey, so not everyone may like it but my husband and I enjoyed it. Will definitely make again!
After I made this pie, I had to freeze it because our plans changed. When I decided to serve it, I thawed it in fridge and let it come to room temp. When it was time to serve, I zapped it in microwave for 30 seconds, by the piece….Ay, Carumba! It was soo very chocolately, with a soupcon of bourbon, and the center was ever so subtley warm and gooey. Did not use the whipped cream…straight vanilla ice cream…I think maybe adding the bourbon to the whipped cream might be overkill on the bourbon
Even better a day or two later after it has chilled in the fridge. Very boozy flavor, so not everyone will like it, but we did!
Way too rich. Going in my garbage! & not like the picture at all. I’ll bet G.Z. didn’t try it.
My daughter made two for Father’s Day and it was a hit! Even my daughter who doesn’t care much for chocolate liked them. She made her own crust with graham crackers and cocoa powder. Only change she made was to reduce the sugar for high altitude.
Made it right after seeing it, was in the mood! Very good, dense and delicious! – -the Bourbon really bumped up the flavor. Used chocolate wafers, it all works!
