Onion and Goat Cheese Tartlets

Ingredients

  1. 2 frozen puff pastry sheets, defrosted
  2. 1 tablespoon butter
  3. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  4. 1/4 cup finely sliced red onion
  5. 1/4 cup finely sliced onion
  6. 2 scallions, finely sliced
  7. 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
  8. 1 egg
  9. 1/3 cup heavy cream
  10. 1 teaspoon salt
  11. 3 ounces goat cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Take a 2 1/2-inch round cookie cutter and cut out 12 rounds from 2 sheets of puff pastry. Take a 12 hole mini muffin pan and place rounds of dough into each hole, pressing gently to form a cup and giving room for the filling. Cover with plastic wrap and keep the prepared pan in the refrigerator or freezer (depends how long until you need it).
  3. In a skillet add butter and oil. Throw in the onions and cook gently until softened and caramelized, stirring frequently for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once cooked add the scallions and chives. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl whisk together the egg, cream, and salt. Add the cooked onions to the custard, stirring thoroughly. Pour into the prepared pastry cups with a spoon. Break up the goat cheese and place on top of tarts. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve.

These were great. I used garlic and herb goat cheese and added a slice of tomato with a sprinkle of Parmesan on top. They made an amazing brunch item.

I needed an appetizer for an Oscar party and my best friend recommended these. They were delicious and a huge hit. What I did different was use sun dried tomato and herb goat cheese to gave it a little more flavor. I did not have red onion on hand so I did yellow onion, chives and scallions. If you cook them long enough they will not be soggy. I had several people ask me for this recipe. Thanks Food Network for another great recipe!

I couldn’t believe how awful these were after getting so many good reviews. I followed the recipe exactly. They were kind of mushy in the middle and not a lot of flavor at all. If you are going to make these, be sure to spray the pan with non stick spray since they were hard to remove. Also, 1 pastry sheet makes 12 rounds.

I made these in England on Boxing Day which is the day after Christmas Day. I used them as a starter and they were absolutely fantastic. I stuck to the recipe as we both love goats cheese. Got to run more baking to do, we have run out.

Made these for Thanksgiving cocktail hour, and they flew off the plate-had made two batches! Definitely needed 30 minutes in oven-middle rack. Yesterday I made the tartlets, using leftover carmelized onions, added tarragon for flavoring, and topped tartlets with gruyere-different but equally amazing! These are on my go-to list of special treats for the holidays for sure!

WOW! These are soooo tasty! I added a little honey to some to see what would happen and they tasted amazing. It tones down the goat cheese though, and we love goat cheese, so only add a tiny bit if you want to tone it down and add some sweetness. Both were so good!

I also used 4 ounces of the herb goat cheese. I mixed about a 1/2 ounce into the cream filling and then followed the recipe. It seems like you can add any thing you like to this recipe and it’ll be good. Next time I might try pieces of apples or pears. YUM!

Oh yea, and I was able to get 24 tartlets out of the 2 pastry sheets and filling with no problem. I just rolled it out after I cut them out. and BTW I just used a glass to cut out the circles. You’ll need to cook about 30 minutes though. I was also able to prepare the night before and cover everything.The next day I filled them and popped them in the oven.

these tartlets were delicious, and so easy to make. i made them for a party, and people gobbled them down. i even got a compliment from one guest who hates onions! i did make one modification … i omitted the scallions and chives (i was in a time crunch. definitely try this recipe.

Although these weren’t too difficult to make, the effort was not worth the result which was just an average tarlet with not much flavor. I will try another recipe next time.

Yummy! A pretty easy and delicious appetizer. I’ve made these lots of times and everyone loves them. I’ve experimented with different types of cheeses. The goat cheese was a little plain for me. I really enjoyed the ones I made with different flavors of Borsin, and ones I made with a soft jalepeno cheese.
