Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 6 baking apples, peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
  2. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  3. 1/2 cup sugar
  4. 2 tablespoons flour
  5. 1 1/4 cups flour
  6. 1/2 cup rolled oats
  7. 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  9. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  10. 12 tablespoons butter (1 1/2 sticks), chilled and cut into small pieces
  11. 1/2 cup nuts, coarsely chopped and toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. For the fruit filling:
  3. In a large mixing bowl, toss together the apples, lemon juice, sugar, and flour. Pour the apple mixture into a buttered 2-quart baking dish and set aside.
  4. For the topping:
  5. In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. With a food processor, a pastry blender, or your fingers work the butter into the flour mixture just until it comes together and large clumps form. Fold nuts into mixture.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the fruit. Bake the apple crisp until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown and crisp, about 45 minutes.
  7. Serve the crisps warm with vanilla bean ice cream or fresh whipped cream, if desired.

Good recipe, I added cinnamon to the apples, I think it would have been too bland without.

This was a great recipe. I made a couple changes-I used 3 different local apples and I put the whole crisp in a graham cracker crust! Sooo good!

I made this recipe, and it was delicious. I used almond flour instead of all purpose flour. I also used 3 Granny Smith, 3 Gala apples. I would definitely make this recipe again!

I have made this several times and it is always great. Prep takes about 45 minutes, not 25. I added another half as much ingredients and used a 3 quart baking dish.

This the second time making this crisp. After reading the reviews and by tasting the first one as written … which was delicious! This time I used two honey crips ,two Granny Smiths and two Macintosh apples. I used 1/4 cup white sugar and 1/4 brown sugar, used one teaspoon of apple pie spice and pinch of kosher salt. I also zested the lemon in addition to the lemon juice. My family approved !
