Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  3. ¼ cup brown sugar
  4. ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  5. ¼ teaspoon salt
  6. 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  7. 1 (12 ounce) package wide egg noodles
  8. 10 slices American cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles and cook until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain and return to the pan. Mix in the cream of chicken soup until noodles are coated.
  3. Crumble the ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain the grease, and stir in the tomato soup, brown sugar, pepper and salt. Spread half of the beef in the bottom of a greased 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Arrange 5 slices of cheese over the beef. Top with half of the noodles, then repeat layers ending with cheese on top.
  4. Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until cheese is browned and sauce is bubbly.

I didn’t drain the beef but added corn,onions stirred in tomato soup and let it sit and cool while boiling the egg noodles. After draining added cream of chicken soup and tossed to coat the noodles and added the meat mixture and then tossed to combine then added mushrooms and sour cream and stirred them in and let cool then put half of the mixture in a greased 2-1/2 casserole dish and topped with shredded cheese and repeat.

This is called Yum a setta by the Amish folks. It is a wonderful comfort food. I think the brown sugar mixed with the ground beef is the key. This is so addicting. Makes a wonderful dinner.

I might try a different recipe. I used to make something called Yumasetta and this was a tad different than I remembered. My husband liked it, though.

We add a bag of frozen sweet corn to the noodles prior to layering the caserole and one drained can of rotell (tomato and green chili) to the hamburger. also we add some shredded chedder over the noodles under the cheese slices. I wouldnt eat this recipe any other way again. I cook this at least twice a month.

I added sour cream to the noodle mixture, it seemed like it cold have been a little dry. I also added cheddar cheese between the layers. I topped this with panko and more cheese and added it to a buttered pan. It was a great week night meal.

I think you either love this casserole or hate it. Sorry, but I’m in the “hater” group. I have to agree with those who feel the meat mixture is too sweet with the brown sugar. My husband even commented on it…and not in a good way! I was so hoping this was going to be a hit and well, it wasn’t in our house.

This was good. I debated whether to give 3 or 4 stars. I ended up giving 4 because the grandkids loved it. Very simple for everyday cooking. Plus it was fun to assemble with the grandkids. I thought it needed more hamburger to balance hamburger to noodle ratio.

This is one of those simple, but good casseroles that we wouldn’t eat too often, due to the type of cheese and high in carbs, but it is sure tasty. I used ground turkey in place of the beef. I had some fresh spinach, so I also added that to the meat mix. Family likes it, so it will be a keeper to make again. Thanks for sharing.

I will be making this again. I did add some of my go to spices of garlic, onion, and italian seasoning. I also cut back on the noodles and will most likely cut that to a half bag of noodles next time, since it was still too dry for our liking. I didn’t add any veggies this time but next time plan too. I love stuff I can just throw together like this and then have left overs after. this is it. a basic casserole that you can add your touches too. Husband comment was “it’s not bad, I’d eat it again”. LOL

I love this recipe. My boyfriend is always asking for it. I did make a couple of changes. I add onions to the beef while I brown it, I don’t drain the beef, since I use 90% lean and I use shredded cheddar cheese. This is a staple in my house all winter long.

I loved this dish so much I could not stop eating it! Three of my children that ate it loved it and want it on the family favorite meal list. My wife may think it’s too sweet. I always add onion to my hamburger and feel that it may have enhanced the flavor even more, but I haven’t tried it without. For those of you who don’t like people to rate a recipe and add suggestions, that’s fine for you, but I believe anything can be improved on, so keep the suggestions coming people.

added small onion to beef, didn’t have tomato soup, used small tomato sauce and tomatoes with green chilies, shredded cheese, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup sour cream, no salt. Yummy

Excellent comfort food. I like to cook a half bag of frozen peas separately and scatter them over the top of the casserole once it is served. I usually add a can of diced tomatoes, and occasionally a can of black beans as well. It also works without the chicken soup, if you use a little butter or olive oil to keep the noodles from sticking to each other. Whole grain noodles are fine. It makes good leftovers, especially if you reheat them in a saucepan on the stove with a little water instead of using the microwave. We enjoy this dish regularly.

I cut out the sugar and used ground Italian sausage (Johnsonville) instead of ground beef. So good and the perfect comfort food for a cold day!!

It was okay. I first made the meat as directed then tasted it. It was WAY too sweet! I had to add some onion powder more pepper salt and all spice. After adding a decent amount of spice and shredded cheddar cheese it turned out okay but I don’t think I will be making it again.
