Ingredients
- 4 cups frozen peach slices
- 2 cups steel-cut oats
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup sliced almonds
- 1 cup flaked coconut
- 2 cups golden raisins
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- Honey, for drizzling
Instructions
- Place the frozen peaches, oats, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and 8 cups water in the bowl of a slow cooker. Stir, set to low and cook for 6 to 8 hours or up to overnight.
- Meanwhile, toast the sliced almonds and flaked coconut separately in dry nonstick skillets over medium heat, shaking the pans frequently to ensure an even toast, until golden and fragrant, 3 to 4 minutes. Let cool. Store, covered, until serving.
- To serve, stir the raisins, milk and cream into the oat mixture. Spoon into bowls and garnish with the almonds, coconut, blueberries and a drizzle of honey.

I’m thinking that reviewers who are saying there is too much water just have a different wattage slow cooker. It is a lot of water, and I let mine cook from about 9pm to 6am and it was still pretty watery so I just turned my slow cooker to HIGH for the next hour or so and it leveled out.
It’s tasty. It’s not hard. I followed the directions to a tee – including the honey drizzle (and I don’t do much sugar) and would give it about 7.5/10, but I also don’t LOVE oatmeal like many do, (I just enjoy it occasionally).
Not sure the raisins are additive. But the peaches are a fun addition and the reviewers’ suggestion to use a slow cooker liner (who knew there was such a thing?) was spot on a good call. Worth trying if you LOVE oatmeal!

Why is there so much water in this recipe? I wondered how it could be right but I saw Ree make it on tv and it turned out great. Not for me! It was not even edible after I added more oats and turned it on high. It was like soup. The flavor was decent but consistency was icky. Why would it turn out this way after following the recipe to a t?!
I used the slow cooker setting on my instant pot and set it to 12 hours (just because I put it in at 7pm the night before so I let it cook a little longer than the recipe suggested). Once I added the milk and raisins, the texture and consistency were perfect and nothing stuck to the side or bottom of my pot! The peaches were good but I’m excited to try different fruit each time I make it. We are a family of 5 and this should still feed us for 3 mornings this week!
I make this about every month. Great recipe that cooks overnight and everyone can make their own oatmeal to go the next morning. It makes a ton but leftovers warm up really well. It does have a thinner consistency than you would expect; I’ll be reducing the water next time I make it to see if that helps. But otherwise, wonderful flavor! Love the peaches.
This is delicious! I halved the recipe because it’s just for me, and it came out perfect! I will make this over and over again!
I make this fairly often. Tried it with blueberries instead of peaches last night. Delicious! Great texture and flavor. I like that it’s not too sweet.
Big disappointment. Too much liquid. The texture was mush and I found it bland. I tossed the whole batch and used the toppings on yogurt instead. I usually like Ree’s recipes but not this one.
I cooked it overnight on low and it was a pile of gross mush. The flavor was OK. But the texture was hard to gut down.
Easy and delicious! Definitely use a disposable liner in your slow cooker, makes clean up a breeze. I have made this slow cooker steel cut oats recipe at least four times. I leave out the peaches, just our preference. I serve it with toasted coconut, toasted almonds and fresh blueberries. We love waking up to a big pot of oats when we have a busy morning ahead of us.
The flavor is good (I added cinnamon) but it’s way too thin. I’ll try it again, but next time I’ll reduce the amount of water I use.
