There are a lot of pickle-forward appetizers in this town…deep-fried pickles, pickle dip and pickle rolls-ups. Molly’s mother-in-law, Roxanne, made these for the holidays and Molly was in love. But for her version, she spices things up with some horseradish for extra zing!

Yield: | 32 roll-ups |
Ingredients
- 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon (20 grams) prepared horseradish
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 4 thick slices deli ham
- 4 kosher dill pickle spears, patted dry
Instructions
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese and horseradish and season with salt and pepper to taste (but not too much salt, because the pickles and ham are salty).
- Lay the ham slices on a work surface and spread a quarter of the cream cheese mixture on each slice in an even layer all the way to the edge. Line a pickle up on a short side, then roll up. Refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes, then slice each roll into 8 pieces with a sharp knife. Serve immediately.

Mom used to make these using tortillas. She would layer tortilla, meat, cream cheese, pickle, roll up, chill, cut. Yum. I will add the horseradish to mine.
I agree with @foodie15…..if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it! If you don’t like a recipe then move on! I am making this for a family get together and I love the horseradish idea. Can’t wait to try this!
These are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS and literally the easiest appetizer I have ever made. Made them for Super Bowl Party and they are Super Popular!
My family and I have made this with many variations on the cream-cheese spread… garlic cream cheese, fresh dill and cream cheese, chives and shallots cream cheese, jalapeño cream cheese… But I have not tried using Horseradish with the cream cheese. On the other hand… I can see how that would be great. We also make this with not just ham, but we have substituted Turkey, Chicken, Bologna, Salami, Roast Beef, virtually any sandwich/deli style meat that goes with pickles will go beautifully with this! Do not be afraid to experiment with your mixes!
@foodie15 – don’t spend so much time hating… Internet has more than enough without you. Contribute in a healthy way or seek help.
I have been making these for years except I don’t put horseradish in the cream cheese. They are great for BBQ or parties
Sounds great! Wonder how they’d be with cornichons?
Looks delish
