It’s simple to create and great to eat this poppyseed salad dressing. I’ve been cooking this dish for years using a recipe from my husband’s grandma. If you enjoy sweet dressings, you should definitely try this recipe!

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 24

Ingredients

  1. 4 cups rolled oats, or as needed
  2. 1 medium apple, cored and grated
  3. 1 egg
  4. 1 cup canned pumpkin
  5. ¼ cup rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place 4 cups oatmeal in the bowl of a food processor; pulse until finely ground. Transfer to a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir in grated apple. Mix in canned pumpkin and egg until well combined; mixture will be thick and slightly sticky.
  4. Roll dough on a surface sprinkled with remaining 1/4 cup oats to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut shapes with a cookie cutter and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until crisp and golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. When rolling the dough, you can dust the surface with ground oatmeal in place of unground oats.

I make all the treats for my two dogs, and these are one of their favorites. I do change the recipe a little. I usually have oat flour and I used 3 cups of this and 1 cup of rolled oats. I would like to say if any dough is too sticky, you can add a little more of whatever flour you’re using to firm it up, and putting any dough between two sheets of parchment paper before rolling it out makes it so much easier. My dogs told me they don’t care what shape their treats are…haha, so I use a pizza cutter to cut the dough. I usually make a couple different sizes, too. I hope these tips are helpful.

Pretty quick and simple! Great for dogs with food allergies. Good sized recipe so I share them with my daughter’s dog and bf’s dog. Freeze them!! They last a long time that way and it slows them down a little bit when they munch on them!

I just made these for my three throwback Poms. they loved them and were easy to make. I did not make bone shapes I merely cut in 1 inch by 1/2 in rectangles and baked until crunchy about 20 mins. I also substituted the apple for banana as one of my fluffs are sensitive to too much apple. they love it.

The messiest recipe for dog treats ever. Forget about a cookie cutter!

Made these for my dog Molly today and she really likes them . My dog biscuit cutter was small so I got 22 biscuits, and the rest of the dough I cut with a regular biscuit cutter and got 10. 32 biscuits all together.. I read Always Hungry and Bren’s reviews and liked what i read. I myself didn’t find the dough to sticky, but I did have to use some ground oats on my board. Thank you for the recipe.

Today, I made Pumpkin-Apple Dog Treats for Abigail. The recipe said 24 and I only got 18 – guess my “bone” cutter is a little larger. I figured if it is good for Annie it is good for my Abigail, too. Abigail LOVES them! They were easy and fun to make. I had to bake them longer because of their size.

Two paws up from Annie. I found the dough difficult to work with. I couldn’t roll them out because the dough stuck to the rolling pin, I considered flouring the pin but that would have comprised the gluten-free factor. In the end I used a spatula to even the dough out and then used a pizza cutter to form into treats.
