homemade dog treats that are special! Carrots, apples, and peanut butter are favorites of my dogs, particularly my puppy Tango Foxtrot. In order to create a unique surprise specifically for Tango on his first birthday, I mixed some of his favorite flavors. Use natural peanut butter that hasn’t had any salt, sugar, or other substances added. Store any additional snacks in the refrigerator.

quick easy, healthy ingredients. I added sweet potato, cooked and chopped, about a half cup of flour and half cup wheat germ. baked a little longer, still soft but firm enough to hold together. Vassar loves his healthy cookies.
I chose this recipe because of the ingredients, but after I mixed them, I thought the dough was too wet and sticky. Sooooo this is what I did: I added whole wheat flour….probably 2 cups. This made it more what I was looking for. I then decided to roll it out between 2 sheets of parchment paper and use a small, round cookie cutter. I baked them at 350° for 40 minutes, flipping them for the last 15 minutes. They were definitely crunchy!! (I’m not sure why it’s important to us to have them crunchy!! My dogs really don’t care one bit!!) I actually ate one and It was good, but I think they need more flavor. I think, next time, I will add something. Maybe more peanut butter? A banana? Maybe some honey? If you make these this way please let us know if you add something and how it worked.
I added 2 cups of wheat flour, 1/2 cup wheat germ, and 1/4 a cup of ground flax seed. I Also increased peanut butter to 3/4 cup. I am so very happy as is Irby an American Pitbull Terrier and Lab mix!
Only 4 stars because I would have preferred them to be crunchy! I did leave them in the oven until cooled, but they still were not crunchy. Maybe longer baking time will work. On the positive side…. My dogs loved them! Even the cat liked them! I kept them in the fridge and they were still good…and GONE… after a week! (I did give my dogs (2 large) more treats than usual because of the healthy ingredients!) I will definitely make them again and bake them a little longer. PS.. I feel so much better using these because of the healthy ingredients and the low cost!
My dogs love it but I think the recipe needs tweaking. I added 1/2 c flour this time and they hold together a bit better. It would be nice to see in progress shots on this recipe and also to see how fine a grate is used. It’s only enough to last me a few days for two dogs, so I don’t make them as often as others.
My dog loved it
My dog LOVES these. And they are so easy to make. ONE thing I’d like to point out; following the receipe, mine came out soft. Which is fine, but they went bad quickly, and don’t travel well, say in a pocket for treats on a walk. The second time I baked them, I left them in the oven for 30 minutes and it still wasn’t enough to get them crisp, like cookies. BUT, the third time, I then turned the oven off and left them in, now, PERFECTION. Everyone’s oven is different so don’t be shy about leaving them in as long as you need, to achieve the consistency you want. THEY ARE SO MUCH CHEAPER and HEALTHIER than storebought, these will be my “go to” dog treat forever!
I did not add peanut butter and my dog loves them I like them to!!Happy late Valentine’s Day!!
I used this recipe for my SAE. I sell them and not a single bad review. My dogs go nuts for them. My cousin gave some to her dogs and now she calls it doggy crack. All in all this is a awesome recipe.
Excellent treat for your dog, mine loved these. They do need to be refrigerated however
I was searching for a dog cookie recipe and came across this one and tried it out, it was a winner!
My dogs love this
I have made this recipe twice. The first time I made no additions, but the second time I added about a half cup of oat flour. This addition helped the treats become firmer, and I recommend the addition, especially if molds are being used.
This was my first time making homemade dog treats and my dog loves them. I didn’t change any ingredients but used my food processor to chop and then mix up everything as I only have a cheap hand mixer. I do keep them in the refrigerator.
The recipe makes a large amount of dog treats. I don’t think I cooked them enough, because the treats were still bendable after baking. But my dog adored eating them, and I will make them again, only a half batch next time.
I fed them to my son’s dog Lina, a pit bull, and my sister’s dog, Dexter, a rescue. They both loved them. I would make them again!
My dog did not like them ,wouldn’t even try them. Tried to give them to my sister’s dogs and they wouldn’t eat them either. Maybe I will have to eat them
Dog loves them
My puppy loved them
Be very careful to use only NATURAL peanut butter – a lot of the others have Xylitol which is poisonous for dogs.
