Royal Icing

Level: Easy
Total: 10 min
Active: 10 min
Yield: 4 cups

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds powdered sugar, sifted, plus more if needed
  2. 1/3 cup whole milk
  3. 2 egg whites

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the powdered sugar, milk and egg whites with an electric mixer until thick and glossy. Add more powdered sugar if the icing seems too thin (the size of the eggs can affect consistency). Just play with it until it’s right. The icing should be stiff enough to “stand still” and not run when piped.

This was perfect! I added a little more than 1/3 cup milk because my mixer wasnt liking how thick it was but still turned out great and paired perfectly with Sweet Dreams sugar cookies. Make sure to use gel food coloring to keep the royal icing consistancy. I wish I could post photos!

Best royal icing hands down. It tastes great too. So easy to make without using powdered egg whites. It’s perfect! Thanks, Dee!

This icing is perfect for our sugar cookies. I did have to add a little more milk to get the consistency I wanted for piping.

I have a question about the egg whites. You don’t have to worry about getting sick? You don’t cook the egg whites.
