Prep: 5 min
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 lime, halved
  2. Coarse salt
  3. 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice, from about 4 limes
  4. 1 tablespoon sugar
  5. 1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
  6. 1/4 cup Triple Sec
  7. 1 cup gold tequila
  8. Ice
  9. 1/2 can good quality lager-style beer
  10. Lime wheels, for garnish

Instructions

  1. To salt the margarita glasses, rub the outside rims of 4 big glasses with a cut lime and press them lightly into a plate of kosher salt, to coat.
  2. Combine the lime juice, sugar, orange liqueur, Triple Sec, tequila, and a big handful of ice in a cocktail shaker (or blender). Shake the margarita really well, for a good 20 seconds, add a splash of beer and strain into the salt rimmed glasses filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.

I had to add more lime juice/margarita mix as the flavor was off and we needed something to cut the alcohol flavor as these are super strong, but I like em strong!

It’s a very good drink on Tuesday with tacos.

We have a local mexican restaurant that makes the BEST shaken margarita. We haven’t been able to duplicate it until we found this recipe. It’s fantastic. Especially if you’re not a fan of the margarita mixers. We did not add the beer. Might try next time.

The best ever.

Awesome! By far the best margarita I’ve had! I used Patron Cittronage for the orange liquor and then Durango triple sec and gold tequila and it was delish. I also used Mich Gold Light as that was what I had and they turned out marvelous. I blended them, also. Try it and you’ll love it!

I made these last night for Cinco De Mayo, but it was a little off. The sugar didn’t dissolve, and just sat at the bottom of the pitcher, and I used Corona, which made it a little light. I think next time I’ll use a finer sugar. Does anybody have a suggestion on what brand of beer would be best? I realize the recipe says “lager” but I’m not sure what that is.

Great flavor, goes down easy. Warning, one is enough. My husband and I enjoyed it so much he had me mix up a second batch, which we drank…. Lucky for us we were at home enjoying a great Tyler meal along with this tasty beverage because when we woke up the next morning, we discovered the shower curtain pulled down and neither of us could remember doing it. Too funny.
Enjoy One, it’s a great drink .

My fiance and I made this because we were looking for a different recipe for margaritas!!! What a surprise. Only thing, they are strong so please drink with caution. We had one and that was PLENTY! As usual Tyler is wonderful with food/drinks!
