The Classic Manhattan

You’d think that a cocktail with just three ingredients would be simple. But while a classic Manhattan is easy to make, it’s also easy to mess up unless you know the right technique. Use rye whiskey to give it a spicy note to balance the sweetness of vermouth.
Level: Easy
Total: 5 min
Active: 5 min
Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

  1. 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  2. 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth, preferably Punt e Mes brand
  3. 2 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
  4. Ice cubes
  5. Luxardo cherries, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Put the bitters, sweet vermouth, and rye whiskey in a mixing glass. Add ice to just above the level of the liquid. Stir with a cocktail spoon, 20–25 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with Luxardo cherries.

I love a rye Manhattan. This is how I make mine only I use Carpano Antica and 1/2 ounce as I don’t like sweet cocktails.
