Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups coffee liqueur (recommended: Kahlua)
  2. 1 cup dark creme de cacoa
  3. 1 1/2 cups vodka

  5. 1 orange wedge
  6. Orange sugar crystals
  7. 12 ice cubes

Instructions

  2. Meanwhile, rub the rims of 8 Martini glasses with the orange wedge. Dip the rims in the sugar crystals to coat lightly. Place the glasses in the freezer.
  3. Add the ice cubes to the vodka mixture and briskly stir the mixture until the ice begins to melt. Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses, and serve.
  4. Note: For kids, serve hot cocoa with sugared rims.

I ground some orange zest with sugar, then mixed in some regular sugar with some cinnamon for the rim.  It enhanced the color and helped to cut the sweetness a bit.

My guests and I totally enjoyed this recipe. I will certainly be making this again. I made my own sugar crystals. I used 2 drops of food coloring to 2 tbsp of sugar, then I crushed it to make the sugar more refined. keep up the good job Giada.

It’s a bit on the sweet side, but we all loved it! I won’t wait for Halloween and probably won’t bother with colored sugar either, although the color would be pretty!

The blend of flavors are wonderful. We had this after dinner with some friends and we all agreed it was delicious and beautiful to look at. I Will definitely make this again!

Terrific melange of flavors, and the icy cold is the perfect way to serve this drink!

We found this a little too sweet for our taste. I think if it had been less syrupy it might have been better. Giada didn’t say how to make orange sugar so I just bought orange sugar crystals from a cooking store and crushed them a little.
