Mudslide

  3.7 – 3 reviews  • Liqueur Recipes
Whilst on a tropical vacation, I allow myself one mudslide a day – usually around 3 pm when I want something sweet and creamy, and the afternoon bucket of beers depletes. The rest of the crew usually makes fun of me, but once they spot the pool server saunter from the bar with a chocolate swirl-laden cup filled to the brim with what basically is a milkshake with a ton of booze, they apologize and order one themselves.

Ingredients

  1. 4 crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  2. 1 teaspoon Himalayan pink sea salt or kosher salt
  3. 1 ounce coffee liqueur, plus additional for dipping the rims, if using
  4. Chocolate syrup, for drizzling, plus additional for dipping the rims
  5. Large ice cubes
  6. 2 ounces chilled vodka
  7. 3 ounces heavy cream
  8. 2 ounces Irish cream liqueur
  9. 4 dashes chocolate bitters
  10. Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Mix together the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and sea salt on a plate. Dip the rims of 2 glasses in some coffee liqueur or chocolate syrup and then rim each with the cookie and salt mixture. Drizzle the inside of the glass with chocolate syrup to taste. Set aside.
  2. In a large shaker filled with a large ice cube, add in the vodka, heavy cream, coffee liqueur, Irish cream and the chocolate bitters. Shake quickly for about 5 seconds until well chilled yet not diluted.
  3. Put 1 or 2 ice cubes into each prepared glass. Immediately strain the cocktail into the glasses. Top with chocolate shavings.

We have been looking for a dessert drink alternative to an espresso martini and this is a winner! Do not neglect the chocolate bitters or sea salt rim- it’s what balances it out! We did use half and half instead of heavy cream because it’s what we had on hand, but I find heavy cream coats your mouth with an unappealing waxy film so I prefer this texture anyway. Thanks for another great recipe, Jeff!

I haven’t made this recipe yet but will. I love Mudslides. But I agree, Jeff is just having fun. People are goo quick to criticize. Just love and relax please.

We made this recipe after seeing it on the food network- I find that they’re too strong- I would consider adding more Irish cream & coffee liquor
