Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice (2 oranges)
  2. 1/2 cup freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice (1 grapefruit)
  3. 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
  4. 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (2 limes)
  5. 1 cup good vodka (recommended: Grey Goose or Finlandia), optional
  6. Extra lemon juice
  7. Granulated sugar
  8. Fresh mint sprigs

Instructions

  1. Combine the orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and vodka, if using, in a pitcher. Dip the rim of 6 martini glasses first in a dish with lemon juice and then a dish with sugar. Set aside to dry.
  2. When ready to serve, place ice cubes in a cocktail shaker, add the cocktail mixture to fill the shaker 3/4 full, and shake for about 30 seconds. It’s important to shake for a full 30 seconds to get the drink very cold and dilute it slightly with the ice. Pour into the sugared martini glasses and garnish with a sprig of mint. Continue filling the shaker with ice and cocktail mixture until all the drinks are poured. Serve ice cold.

This was delicious! I tripled the recipe and also added 3/4 cup of simple syrup because my citrus was super tart. Will definitely make again!

Love this!
Thanks for another fun way to drink!

Absolutely love this drink. I do agree with other comments, you should add a little simple syrup to adjust the sweetness. It also helps with the viscosity of the drink. Don’t skip out on the mint leaves it really adds that extra touch. This is perfect for spring and summer cocktails.

I have made this drink many times and you should have some simple syrup on hand to adjust it as needed.  It all depends on how sweet or tart your citrus is.  Make the juices, taste them, and add the syrup as needed.  Then add your vodka.  Great spring and summer drink!

OMG this is incredible!  I ordered a citrus juicer in order to make this and so glad I did.  The sugar rim is a must as it adds sweetness to the tart juice.  A splash of champagne would be great too!

Great drink. Good with sparkling wine, too.

I made this recipe according to the instructions except I doubled it to make a larger batch. I doubled the fruit juices but only put in 1.5 cups of Skyy Citrus vodka due to other reviews saying it was too strong. I still found it to be too strong so I added a splash of Cointreau and made sure it was ice cold. Being really cold truly does change the taste of the drink but I wish I’d made a simple syrup to sweeten it. Not a drink I’d be greatly inclined to make again without greatly modifying it.

Love this! I tried it after reading the description in the Back to Basics book, and tried it with vodka the first time, and the next time, tried it with gin. You do have to adjust the sweetness (just a little sugar or honey works too) depending on the season and the tartness of the fruits, but overall one of my favorite cocktails.

This was good. We both agreed it needed some sweetening, so we ended up adding just shy of 1/2 cup of caster sugar. We decided to try the same recipe, but with coconut rum in place of the vodka and it was a much better blend. We will definitely add it to our repetoire. This recipe is great inspiration.

This was delicous and so pretty with the sugared rim. Just the right amount of fruit juice to vodka.
