Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup plain bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 eggs
- 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons adobe sauce (from can of chipotle peppers in adobo)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Instructions
- To make the meatballs: In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients, except the canola oil. Shape heaping teaspoons of the mixture into 1-inch balls. In a Dutch oven, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Working in batches, wiping pan in between, saute the meatballs, turning frequently for even browning, until cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes. Place on a paper towel-lined plate.
- To make the sauce: Heat oil in the same Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the onions and saute until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Add the crushed red pepper and cook 1 minute. Stir in the remaining ingredients and reduce heat to low.
- Add the browned meatballs to the Dutch oven and toss gently to coat with sauce.

Great option for a party, yummy.
These are a staple of mine for parties. Like others, I also add more brown sugar than the recipe calls for, a few dashes of worchestershire sauce and some Dijon mustard. Instead of red pepper flakes I use garlic chili sauce which gives it a nice kick with some added flavor. When in a rush, frozen cocktail or Swedish meatballs are a great substitute.
These were a huge dissapointment. Spicy should mean spicy not dull.
Followed to a T. No changes ……will not make these again….tasted like meatballs in katchup sauce….

These are sooo good and flavorful! I baked my meatballs in the oven before coating with the sauce. Instead of red pepper flakes, I used some of the peppers in adobo sauce. …I also made this sauce for little smokies. It was super easy since I just combined all of the sauce ingredients and party dogs in the crockpot. I will be making this recipe again!
I had these at a party and was SO happy when the host was able to point me to the Food Network for the recipe! I loved these!
These are GREAT! Made them for a party and they were a hit. Only thing I did differently, I baked the meatballs instead of frying.
Fabulous recipe for more than one reason. Meatballs are great in the sauce but the sauce is what makes the dish so good. I make extra sauce and use it on pork chops. FANTASTIC! I’ll also spice it up and use it as a dipping sauce for steak…INCREDIBLE. The sauce is seet, sour, hot and with just the texture you want to make it by slicing the onions thicker or thinner (we like thick. Use your imagination on this and you are making just the sauce for far more than meatballs. Easy, Tangy and Delicious.
This was a perfect recipe for an after school snack
But if you dont want to make the meat balls you can use store bought ones too(in my opinion, swedish meatballs work the best
