Ingredients
- 1 turkey drumstick
Instructions
- Place turkey drumstick and just enough water to cover into a saucepan over medium heat; bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until turkey is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, about 40 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
- Remove from the heat and set aside, with the lid still on, until turkey is cool enough to handle, about 20 minutes.
- Remove turkey from the saucepan, reserving the cooking liquid. Remove and discard skin. Pick turkey meat from the bone and place into a food processor or blender.
- Add cooking liquid to the food processor, a few tablespoons at a time, and blend until turkey is rather smooth, adding more cooking liquid as needed.
- You can add 2 to 3 potatoes and/or carrots to the pan to cook along with the turkey in Step 1. Peel potatoes and carrots when cool, then purée separately, adding a little cooking liquid as needed to thin the consistency. Freeze in 2-tablespoon portions, then serve with the same amount of turkey baby food for a turkey dinner!
- Spoon 2-tablespoon portions turkey purée into each compartment of an ice cube tray. Freeze until solid, about 2 hours, then remove frozen cubes from the tray and place into a resealable freezer bag for storage. To defrost, place one cube in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for about 30 seconds.
