Even the pickiest eater will like this inventive take on traditional comfort cuisine for dinner. For a milder variation, omit the hot peppers! Make extra to freeze for later or to have on hand for a quick dinner.

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds ground turkey
  2. 2 onions, chopped
  3. ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
  4. ½ cup chopped red bell pepper
  5. 1 serrano chile pepper, minced
  6. 1 fresh chile pepper, minced
  7. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  8. 2 cups ketchup
  9. 1 cup barbeque sauce
  10. ¼ cup cider vinegar
  11. ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  12. 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  13. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  14. 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  15. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  16. ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  17. hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Cook and stir ground turkey, onions, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, serrano chile pepper, fresh chile pepper, and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat until the turkey is no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Drain fat from the turkey mixture.
  2. Stir ketchup, barbeque sauce, cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and black pepper into the turkey mixture. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook at a simmer until the vegetables are completely softened, about 20 minutes.
  3. Serve on split hamburger buns.

Pretty good! I used a little less turkey and added more vegetables. For the heat, I only had a couple small jalapenos on hand. The sauce was very good. Will be making this one again.
