Total Time: 2 hrs 5 mins

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 3 tablespoons minced garlic
  2. salt and ground black pepper to taste
  3. 12 chicken legs, thawed
  4. 1 pinch garlic powder, or to taste
  5. 1 (12 ounce) bottle hot pepper sauce (such as Frank’s® RedHot)
  6. ½ cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil and place a wire baking rack on top.
  2. Fill a large pot with water. Add minced garlic, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil. Add chicken legs; cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain.
  3. Arrange chicken legs on the wire rack. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Flip and continue baking until juices run clear, about 20 minutes more.
  5. Transfer chicken legs to a slow cooker. Cover with hot pepper sauce and melted butter.
  6. Cook on Low until flavors combine, 1 to 2 hours.
  7. If using unthawed chicken legs, boil for 15 minutes.
  8. This also makes the most delicious chicken wings! You just need to decrease the baking time.

Worked like a Champ! Had to change up my “bake time”, as I used a dry fryer instead. It only goes up to 400, but I figured to err on the safe side, and put ’em in for 15 minutes each side, (again to err on the safe side to make sure all water was out). Also had to change up the hot sauce to what I already had on hand. 😉 flipped after 1 hour in slow cooker, 1/2 hour later I couldn’t wait any longer, and they were right! Thank you.

Made nice tender chicken legs. For fear of making it too hot, I used 6 oz of taco seasoning with a couple dashes of tobasco for the sauce.

I almost passed by this recipe because we are not big fans of legs until I happened to see the cooks notes about this recipe making the most delicious chicken wings. We love wings. I still wasn’t sure if I’d like this since we usually fry our wings prior to coating them in sauce. I liked this just fine and in fact, the leftovers hold up much better the next day. If you are looking for a healthier way of cooking hot wings then look no further.
