Amazing!!! My very picky family loved it. The only change I made was two cans of cream of chicken soup because I did not have a mushroom soup on hand. We served it with jasmine rice! Delish!!!
My whole family loved it. I used half lite sour cream and half lite mayo, added a can of chicken broth to make a thinner gravy, garlic powder instead of garlic salt, no extra salt, half the curry and cayenne, low sodium soups, half the cheese and mixed everything all together. Ate over rice. So Yummy!
I have made this dish many times and it is a crowd-pleaser! I always like to keep the ingredients on hand so it is easy to assemble them at the last minute. I use the $4.95 rotisserie chicken from Costco, cut up chicken chunks, and freeze it in 3-cup portions. I also use fresh or frozen broccoli in 3-cup portions (cook/defrost before adding). Adding 2 T of lemon juice to the creamy soup mixture adds really good flavor – try it, you will like it! I use sharp cheddar freshly grated for richer flavor. Adding the fried onions for the last 10 minutes is plenty. Serve over steamed rice – YUM!
Excellent. Used square cake pan and used only one can of chicken soup and some sour cream. Added onions for the last 10 minutes. Served with rice.2n time, made for Sunday supper. Added Italian sausage, both soups. Made red rectangle casserole dish and was all gone.
We did cut out the cayenne & definitely the curry (my family hates the taste of it) and this was delish
Very good–went over well with my teenage boys! I also made this for a local non-profit that I prepare lunch for weekly and it was well received. My only suggestion is possibly using low-sodium condensed soup, and then adding salt to taste. Great recipe!
It was great and easy
Delicious!
This is a really great dish for family dinner. A wonderful flavor that everyone loves. I used regular store brand curry powder (not Madras.) I was concerned about salt level so i used garlic powder instead of garlic salt. I boiled a whole chicken and used a few cups of that- served over white rice. If you are not a fan of spicy, cut back on the cayenne pepper.
Great recipe! Cut back on the curry quite a bit.
Lisa! You nailed it! What flavor! The addition of the cayenne made it. Next time, I will have Fried onion rings on hand and it will be even more fabulous. Thank you for this recipe. My hubby loves it.
It’s delicious
Classic flavors, but very salty. I might try again with reduced-sodium soups. I like the onions on top.
The family loved it. I thought it was a bit salty so I cut down on the french fried onions a bit on my second try.
This is a very decadent dish, but it is my go-to for church meal train and I have had ladies announce their pregnancy and then promptly ask me to bring them this dish after their baby is born ?? I make it with both carrots and broccoli (I’ve used frozen but prefer fresh just due to texture). My other modifications are to use cream of cheese condensed soup instead of what is listed. I’m not a curry fan, so I’ve never added that. Also, I usually omit or cut wayyyy back on the? cayenne pepper since I’m usually making it for others and am not sure about their spice preferences. I will add a bit of paprika for the red flecks and to give it some Smokey flavor. Also, I like to mix the mayo, spices, and soup in a large bowl and then dump everything else in – reserving some fried onions and cheese to top at the end. Then I put it in a baking dish, bake, and then top with remaining cheese and onions and bake for a few more minutes to melt and get crisp. Seriously the best comfort food ever!!!
My husband loved this so much he said he’d like it once a week! He doesn’t go for curry or spicy foods so I reduced to amount of cayenne to half and curry to a quarter and doubled the amount of chicken.
I added sauteed mushrooms and onions. Did not use the french fried onions on the top. It was delicious.
I make this with chopped up frozen onion rings (mixed in) and add toasted almonds ( on top). The onion rings add a nice flavor and keep it from getting to runny.
Made some modifications to make a little more healthy. Used 98% fat free cream soups, subbed yogurt for the mayo and doubled the broccoli and only used 1 1/2 cups of cheese. Took previous review suggestion of cooking longer to save on the prep and also added some fresh squeezed lemon juice. Fabulous base recipe that’s easy to modify to your family’s tastes.
I love this unique take on Chicken Divan! I omit the cream of mushroom soup due to personal preference and add about 1/3 cup milk to the soup mixture instead. Also, like other reviewers, I use garlic powder instead of garlic salt. No need for the extra sodium.
I’ve made this a few times and everyone has always loved it. Definitely one of my favorite recipes on here!
