In high school, my mother initially made this for our family. I make it at least once a month now that I live alone. It is quite soothing.

Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package farfalle (bow tie) pasta
- ½ cup butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 large head green cabbage, shredded
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the bow tie pasta and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 12 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic, olive oil, and cabbage; season with salt and pepper; cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Stir in the sausage and bow tie pasta; cook until completely heated, about 5 minutes more. Top with Parmesan cheese and serve immediately.

I made this recipe as written. It was easy to put together and delicious although a bit oily. The next time I make this I will follow the advice of other reviewers and cut back on the butter and oil.
Like others, I reduced the oil and butter and used beef stock. Only half as much pasta as I wanted the cabbage to be the star of the show. A little bland. Will use more seasonings or different sausage when I make it again. Hubby liked it!!
Surprisingly good. I added an onion to the skillet but other than that delish as is.
Great recipe I tweaked a bit but I love this meal. Thanks
Hear me out the flavor isn’t super complex or out of this world buuuut the simplicity let’s the vegetables show their true glory. I changed some measurements around like half the pasta, added milk and halved the butter. I also added some Italian seasoning to boost things just a tad but it was so good and very budget friendly! Easy to throw together and great leftovers which is the most important part for me.
family favorite! added mushrooms that needed to be used and now I put them in everytime.
Very good recipe. Makes ALOT of food and reheats well
It was fantastic.!,
Good recipe. Easy to make. Tasty. I sautéed the sausage first, removed it then sautéed the onion, garlic, cabbage. Added salt then when all was done, added the sausage and pasta. I kept the grease the sausage left behind and added ¼ cup of butter. Idk how ppl would add half a cup and the oil. I will make it again next time, but will only add about a tbsp of butter. The quarter cup was still too oily. Good, but oily. Will make again. I might add carrot for added flavor and sneak those veggies onto kids’ plate.
Since I do not eat meat, I made the cabbage with a few changes, I added sweet yellow pepper and a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar. Delicious
I used this recipe not knowing if I liked cabbage. I don’t think I. Ma cabbage person but if I find myself with a head of cabbage again I would definitely use this recipe!
This is a great recipe. For next time we thought we might try some additions even though we like it as is. One, Cook the noodles longer (We like softer noodles, two, try increasing the garlic and cheese, three, try adding some peas to it.
It was just delicious. My family loved it. I will definitely be making it again.
Surprisingly fabulous. Like others I reduced butter and olive oil by half. Next time I’ll cook cabbage for less than 9 minutes. I highly recommend this sleeper dish. Thanks
Delicious! Do recommend adding onion and red peppers and sauté along with the sausage slices before adding the cabbage. Some paprika seasoning is nice.
Simple, tasty and fast! All the ingredients I needed for a great recipe. I wouldn’t change anything.
Amazing!!! My family enjoyed every bit of this dish!!!
This is great! My husband and me loved it. Made as written except only used half the butter. It was fantastic!!
I love cabbage and smoke sausage together so I had to try this. It’s very good so I’m glad I did. The Parmesan cheese is a nice addition of flavor! The cook time for the cabbage depends on how small you slice or shred your head of cabbage. I will make it again leaving out the oil and adding a sliced onion. My husband even liked it and he’s not a fan of cabbage!
OMG to die for. Definitely a keeper!!
I love cabbage – my husband and son don’t feel the same as I do about it! In fact, when my husband asked what’s for dinner and I told him, he asked what he and my son were having! They changed their tune during dinner – they both thought this was very good and went back for seconds. I made some modifications due to lack of ingredients and trying to vegefy (new word?) our meals. I used an egg noodle instead of bowtie pasta, added an onion, carrots and cauliflower. I cut down on the butter. I didn’t have any fresh garlic cloves, so I sprinkled garlic powder generously, along with salt and pepper. I sliced the cabbage the same width as the egg noodles and sautéed the veggies together prior to adding the cabbage, sausage and noodles. I’m sure this recipe would be terrific as is, and I’m grateful for the recipe as I would have never thought of the combination of pasta and cabbage. Delicious!
