I’m thankful for this recipe. I didn’t grow up in a family that used a slow cooker so this recipe is a great starter esp. when I’m unfamiliar with cooking times. I made lots of changes to this recipe to give the chicken more flavor send cooked it on HIGH for 4.5 hrs. Not really baked, more like braised, but my family enjoyed it. Thanks again!

I was impressed how well this turned out in the crockpot. However, I cut the backbone out and browned both sides in a cast-iron skillet before placing in the crockpot. I had 3 large sweet potatoes that I placed on the bottom to keep the chicken from sitting on the bottom~ very tasty!

So easy! put it in and forget it. It was so tender that did fall apart when I was asking it out so next time I’ll use the cheese cloth trick!

Really easy and really good, but needed more flavor for me.

Used a 5 lb chicken and cooked exactly as directed. I have never had moister chicken. Absolutely falling off the bone.

This is the first time I have ever cooked a whole chicken. I loved how tender the meat was and it fell off the bone. Some changes I made that I enjoyed: Stuffed the chicken with half an onion, sever cloves of garlic and some celery. I also stuffed some butter under the skin. I used red potatoes on the bottom instead of foil. Some changes I would make next time: I would probably cook it on low for 6-8 hours next time, not 10. Slow cooking for 10 caused the entire chicken to fall apart and it made serving it a little challenging. If you cook for 10 hours don’t plan on taking it out of the slow cooker and presenting it on a tray.

I made this last night and it was delicious! I could only find a 6.25 lb chicken! Started it at high for one hour, then low for 6 hours. It was a little bit dry but nothing to complain about! My family loved it! I used the tin foil balls, but the bird in a bag on top of them, breast down, with a little olive oil, rosemary, salt and pepper under and over the skin. I also slid large onion slices under the skin and in the cavity. The fit was a bit snug but I think the only thing I would change is less cooking time. Thanks for a great idea, Cotton!

I followed other reviewers. I seasoned and broiled the chicken legs for color. Then placed potatoes, carrots, onion and corn on the cob, there were seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, basil, paprika, salt and pepper, into the bottom of the crockpot. I placed the chicken on top and added 1/2 cup chicken broth. Came out delicious!

I like the recipe but added some garlic powder to it.

So easy.

Came out delicious and tender. The only reason for the 4 stars is that I took advice from other reviews and added extra spices & veggies and added less broth. So I didn’t follow as directed. .I also browned the chicken before placing it in the crock pot.. This is a basic recipe that you can change to your taste.. will make it again! It’s a family favorite!

I seasoned the chicken with butter all over. I also put butter under the skin by the breast. I seasoned the chicken with seasoned salt, pepper, Italian season, garlic powder and paprika on the outside, inside and under the skin. I also put a half of an onion in the cavity. I poured chicken broth in the bottom of the crock pot and cooked for 10 hours. The chicken was very moist and tasty.

Will make again. Turned out just as instructed.

Most Excellent ! I just retired and decided I was going to do the cooking from now on at home. I don’t have any experience at cooking, but I use the recipes I find here all the time. She has started to call me maestro. I am becoming the connoisseur of the Crock pot.

Easy enough and takes only a few minutes to prepare for the slow cooker but the finished product is rather bland. Maybe you could add a savory sauce to spice it up…

This has potential, but is seriously lacking as written. The length of Cook time is way to long. It was “falling off the bone” but because it was so over cooked. I would start at 1 hour high and start checking at around 4 hours of low after. Even that could be too long, I haven’t tried tweaking this recipe. It lacked in flavor as all the seasoning is only on the skin. I did like cooking it on tinfoil as I’m sure that made the skin crispier than not; but I would not call this crispy skin overall. I will try again tweaking it, but it looks much greater than tastes unfortunately.
