These filled Kaiser rolls aren’t absolutely guaranteed to be a slick experience, but they’re close.

Made as is. Was a different flavour than the sloppy joes I’m used to. A bit liquidy but still yummy. Would also go well over rice, pasta or even a bed of lettuce. I halfed the chili powder because I knew it would have been too much for me.
Change: Same ingredients, and also browned a pound of ground beef with the onion.
Very tasty and easy to make! The carrots didn’t sound appealing to me so I left them out. Everything Else I made like the recipe. While the beans cooked in the sauce I mashed about half with a wooden spoon to get a more beef like consistency. Very delicious!
I tried the changes in another review, more vinegar, halved the chili powder and pepper and it had just enough spice for me. The double vinegar was a good idea My husband and I both thought the dish was okay, but missing something. I did not read all the reviews, but may try it again if I find a review with suggestions on what can be added to the recipe.
We have been making this and loving it for years. I always double, as it freezes well and is a tasty and nutritious meal. I add more tomato paste because, well, tomato paste is yummy, and it adds even more flavor. Well recommended for anyone looking for an easy veggie meal.
I made this yesterday and had I rated it then, I would have said pretty good. However, I brought it for lunch and after a day, it was delicious! Thank you for the recipe.
way too peppery and way too tomatoey. i had to throw this out and serve sandwiches
This recipe is a winner. My twin two-year-olds gobbled it down, and my husband asked that it be put into our weekly rotation. It was really easy, too! I added a bit of worchestershire sauce and some brown sugar to give it a more “authentic” taste (my mom used those ingredients in her sloppy joes). I also added a bit of cornstarch mixed with warm water at the end, to thicken it up and give it the right consistency. Really tasty!
It was SOOOO good, the very first time I made it. Much better than meaty sloppy joes. Really easy too. Having it again tonight. YUMM
I tried it with kidney beans, and it sucked. So I tried it a second time and only changed the sort of beans I used. I mushed up some northern beans and mixed it with the paste, and then I threw in whole black beans. It was MUCH better this way.
As written, this is not good. As many reviwers commented, the chili powder is overpowering. I made some alterations and enjoyed the results: I halved the chili powder, and doubled the vinegar. I also added about 1/2 tsp of worcestershire sauce and about 1 tsp of honey. We enjoyed it on open faced sandwiches with a slice of provalone. Will make again, might try adding a little more tomato, and experiment with other veggies!
Really good. I omit the celery. We have these regularly for a fun supper.
This was spicier than I was expecting and didn’t taste anything like the sloppy joe mix in a can that I grew up with. I liked it best not on a bun but over potatoes with a little cheddar on top to offset the spiciness.
Quick & great for ur spouse who’s not keen on being vegetarian. Used 2 8oz. cans of tomato sauce instead of diced tomatos. Definetly eased up on chilli powder. Used potato rolls, & it was amazing! Not too many changes like other recipes-so gave it 5 stars. Make about once a wk on busy nights
Perfect recipe for a good roll. We will have it again.
The first time I made this dish was just for my husband and I. Then the kids asked for a bite and now I have to make plenty for everyone.
Do i need the white vinegar im wondering!!! Other wise this recipe sound great 😉
First time I’ve ever made sloppy joes, delicious and flavorful! And simple to make.
Very good but very hot (spicy). Suggest decreasing the chili powder to taste.
Good vegetarian dish! My son & husband both ate and liked it.
I am super impressed with this recipe it was wonderful! Filling to eat and fast to make. I mistakenly grabbed a can of basil, garlic and oregano diced tomatoes but it still tastes great! I think I may use it every time. Also, my husband decided we should not scoop out our whole wheat rolls. A new recipe to use with out meat!! Thank you so much for sharing.
