Tex-Mex Burger with Cajun Mayo

  4.6 – 323 reviews  • Hamburgers

Everyone enjoys this simple dish that is made with ground beef, tomatoes, and corn. Usually, my spouse asks for two batches! You can use ground beef, pork, or chicken in instead of ground turkey.

Prep Time: 25 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 burgers

Ingredients

  1. ½ cup mayonnaise
  2. 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  3. 1 ⅓ pounds ground beef sirloin
  4. 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
  5. ½ cup diced white onion
  6. 1 clove garlic, minced
  7. 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  8. 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  9. 4 slices pepperjack cheese
  10. 4 hamburger buns, split
  11. 4 leaves lettuce
  12. 4 slices tomato

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill for medium-high heat. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground sirloin, jalapeno pepper, onion, garlic, 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning, and Worcestershire sauce using your hands. Divide into 4 balls, and flatten into patties.
  3. Lightly oil the grilling surface, and place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until well done. During the last 2 minutes, lay a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Spread the seasoned mayonnaise onto the insides of the buns. Put burgers in the buns, and top with lettuce and tomato to serve.

Recipe was great, but there is a problem with the amount on the cajun seasoning. The ingredients say the same amount for both the sauce & for the burger a tablespoon. Yet in the directions it has tsp for the sauce. I’m assuming it is the same amount for sauce and to use in the burgers but the direction for sauce someone goofed and put tsp instead of tablespoon. This should be checked into & corrected. Again will make the burgers/sauce again but hate the new format for the recipes and all the flaws in trying to print an adjusted recipe.

We enjoyed this burger recipe. Will definitely be making this again!

Thought it turned out quite good.

I like the sauce, but I’d prefer a more traditional burger recipe. It has a nice tang but the whole ingredients will be prepared next time on top of the burger instead of in it.

The burgers were great. My wife loved them. Just enough spice but not too much.

pretty tasty

Pretty happy with this burger. I needed to add more cajun seasoning to both the burger and the mayo. “Cajun Seasoning” can vary quite a bit recipe to recipe or brand to brand so that is really to taste. Love the Worcestershire sauce in the meat, but the chopped onion and jalapeños get lost. Next time I’ll just use them as toppings. 07/11/17

Leave the Ketchup off this burger and enjoy the fabulous Cajun Mayo. This is one delishious burger. Loved these!

I had this without the bun (less carbs, anyway, which I frequently do), and it was excellent! The mayo sauce was very good, and I just had it on the side. I also did not have the jalapenos available. The cooking time was spot-on, and I put a lid on the pan when the cheese was melting. I like spiciness, and this had a nice kick to it. Thanks for the recipe!

This was the most flavorful burger recipe I’ve ever made. The only changes I made were: I used extra lean ground beef, I double the jalapenos and added a liberal amount of hot sauce. My husband and I really enjoy spicy food, so we would say this is a medium level of spice. It’s not for the faint of heart (stomach), but it could definitely be spicier for those who enjoy heat.

I think I was the only one that liked it.

I may not certain what makes this a “Tex-Mex” hamburger but this is a very good hamburger! The only detractor is that it was a little salty but that was from the Cajun spice we used. This is definitely a keeper!

Average. Not so Cajun. Kids did eat it. Made it exactly like the recipe called for.

These were delicious! I used Emeril Lagasse’s Essence for my Cajun seasoning. Also, I sauteed my onions and jalapenos in some butter to soften them up before adding them to my meat mixture. I made all of my patties and then refrigerated them until we were ready to grill. I served these with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and pickles. They were a huge hit!

I followed the recipe, for the most part. For how easy these burgers were to make, they were surprisingly good. We even talked about making several batches and freezing, so we would always have them on hand!

The sirloin was a bit dry. I’ll use 80/20 next time. Awesome flavor.

I’ve made these de.icious burgers twice. The whole family loves the extra kick of the spices, and they seem to be juicier than plain burgers as well. If I have cilantro on hand, I like to chop some and add it to the ground beef mix. Avocado slices are a nice addition.

Pretty darn good!

Made with simple Cajun spice from this site. Very tasty and plenty spicy for me. Left out jalapeño since I didn’t have one and skipped the cheese. Still very delicious.

SUPER easy to make. Prep time took longer than the cook time. Thanks for the recipe! 🙂
