Super Easy Sloppy Joes

  4.4 – 88 reviews  • Sloppy Joe Recipes

I love chicken Caesar wraps, so this is a quick and simple lunch. If you don’t have any croutons currently, you may quickly make some in the oven. This wrap is made much better by homemade croutons.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 3 pounds ground beef
  2. 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  3. 1 cup finely chopped celery
  4. 1 (12 ounce) bottle tomato-based chili sauce
  5. ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  6. ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  7. 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Crumble the ground beef into a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently until evenly browned. Drain off grease. Add the onion and celery, and cook until the onion is tender, about 3 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and pour in the chili sauce. Stir in the vinegar and sugar. Add mustard if using. Simmer until the mixture is your desired thickness. Serve on buns.

This is a hit when I have family over for a low key dinner. I have fed a crowd of people painting my trailer one day. Also a hit. I do put it in the crock pot sometimes. The only thing I did different was rinse my chili sauce bottle out with a little water and dumped that in. Every tasty bite

The easiest sometimes is the best. This is the best.

Turned out great… I froze it into snack size freezer bags for individual meals… A quick meal after a long day at work…

it was super easy and delicious! 🙂 I used tomatoe paste with alittle extra water in place of the chili sause.

I used the Sloppy Joe sauce to make a casserole, everyone loved it!

I’ve made this several times, easy and delicious.

Love it! Only change was to add a second bottle of chili sauce because we like it more saucy 🙂

Didn’t add the celery. I don’t know why every recipe that I researched calls for celery because I don’t recall my mother putting it in her sloppy joes.

This is my go-to sloppy joe recipe. It’s so good. I just brown the hamburger and put it all in the crock on low. Makes a lot and is easy to make to feed a crowd.

Made this sloppy Joe recipe for years – family loves it!

Except for a couple of minor differences, this is the same recipe my mom used to make for us back in the ’50s, and I really enjoyed it then (and now). I made two changes: reduced the ground beef to 2 lbs. and used green pepper instead of celery. Yes, it IS “super easy” and very kid-friendly since it’s not at all spicy, but if you like more zip in your Joes you can easily add something to punch it up to your taste. One note — 3 lbs. of ground beef yields 6 servings??? I got 8 generous servings using only 2 lbs.

Made it exactly as written. Family loved it. Will be making often.

We all loved it so I will make it again. I took advice from other reviewers and didn’t add so much brown sugar, I only added 1tablespoon and that was plenty. Cooked my onion and some garlic with the meat. Added a dash of worcestershire, celery seedworked fine since I didn’t have celery. I also used enchilada sauce when I couldn’t find any chili sauce in the cupboard. It turned out really yummy. Made the mistake of not draining the fat off my meat. Definitely will next time. I followed this recipe as a base, I’m a cook not a scientist. I make adjustments….like a cook.

Really excellent recipe! Simple to make, I followed some other commenters and added a Tbl of Worcester and also added the onion and celery before draining the grease to cook them a little easier. If you have yellow mustard around definitely add it because it counteracts the sweetness of the sugar. I used a full Tbl. This came out delicious and my roommate who told me she doesn’t even normally like Sloppy Joes even enjoyed it!

My family really enjoyed these and I will definitely make them again! I did not use the mustard and added green chiles for a little extra heat; turned out great!!

Good! Does not need sugar added, leave it out for the best flavor.

Used 2-1/2 lb. of 80/20 hamburger because it’s what I had. Used listed quantities of all other ingredients (including yellow mustard) as listed in recipe except the following: didn’t add the celery, did add 1/4 cup finely diced sweet orange pepper, also added one teaspoon each of paprika and chili powder. It was great! I’ll make it again exactly the way I did tonight.

All items were pantry items. The first time I made this there was not enough “sauce”. The next time , because I was cooking for a crowd, I added one more pound of beef (total of 4) and doubled everything else plus 1 tsp. of table salt.

I did not make it as I love Chef John’s sloppy Joes. Just wanted to say that 3 pounds of gr. beef makes a heck of a lot more than 6 servings. However the recipe sounded pretty good and easy.
Shawn Rogers
Interesting flavor. Sweeter than I expected. Probably don’t need the sugar. Would have liked it with more sauce.
