Been making these for over 65 years! White bread (now prefer sourdough) , lots of mayonnaise, thick slices of ripe tomatoes and salt & pepper. Mouth watering just thinking about next one

Absolutely perfect

I toast the bread, then I put a slice of American cheese over the tomatoes, then stick it under the broiler to melt the cheese

My wife &I make this but add a slice or two (2) of American Cheese & let it sit out awhile.

I call it a kitchen sink tomato sandwich, as I use thicker slices of tomato with a bit more mayo, and eat over the kitchen sink, letting the juice drip off my elbows/ Delicious!

I have made these for years. I didn’t realize they were southern. I live in Canada and they people here have made them for years. The only thing better is a toasted version ( BLT) of this with bacon and lettuce added.

Ok, I have always called this just a tomato sandwich, and I am in Eastern Canada. Although now I prefer it on toasted bread with a slice of melted cheddar.

Ditch the Mayo and choose/spread some melted avocado on rye or multigrain. More tasty and healthy!

Yes I made one change, I put hot mustard, it was delicious, thank you for the recipe

I haven’t had a tomato sandwich in a long long time, but I really enjoyed them as a child when my grandmother would make them on slightly toasted bread. Her family was from Savannah, Ga. not to mention she grew up during the Depression, so tomato sandwiches may have been a go to sandwich back then. Thank you sharing your recipe. This brings back fond memories of eating with my mommom.

Great. My Grandparents taught me this “recipe”. I add a slice of bologna. Yeah! Good. I also peel the tomato. Use Heirloom tomatoes.. (I’m 86)

I’m an old country girl. Don’t need a recipe for this tasty treat. If you’ve never tried this for yourself, you NEED to try it! Two thumbs up!!!

I have always loved tomato sandwiches but I’ve always put some kind of cheese on them, either american or pimento. It just takes it to the next level.
