Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

  4.6 – 0 reviews  • Pulled Pork

Although root beer and pulled pork don’t seem like they would go well together, they do in this case. It will be a hit when topped with your preferred BBQ sauce.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 6 hrs
Total Time: 6 hrs 10 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 1 (2 pound) pork tenderloin
  2. 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle root beer
  3. 1 (18 ounce) bottle your favorite barbecue sauce
  4. 8 hamburger buns, split and lightly toasted

Instructions

  1. Place pork tenderloin in a slow cooker; pour root beer over top. Cover and cook on Low until pork shreds easily, 6 to 7 hours. Note: the actual length of time may vary according to the individual slow cooker.
  2. Drain well. Stir in barbecue sauce. Serve on hamburger buns.

We have made this multiple times over the years with different root beers and different BBQ sauces. Always a big hit! 🙂

Very easy and good. Definitely use the handmixer method to pull the pork. It is done in seconds. I like to put chicken stock in the broth for cooking. If I don’t have root beer or coke, I put some brown sugar in.

Awesome recipe , super easy ! The second time I made it I soaked the loin in rootbeer overnight and put it in the slow cooker in the am before work and it was even more tender and flavorful . I assume the acid or carbonation broke down the meat enzymes and soaked into the meat more ?

I loved it! Very easy to make, I know there isn’t any factor grizzle in it. Tasted great!

I made the recipe as printed and found it lacking in the depth of flavor my old recipe has. For a quick, cheap, easy recipe it may be okay for you, but I would rather take the time to add molasses, onions, etc, for a really good, deep flavor. I also think a cheaper cut with fat adds even tho you have to cool and remove the membrane and congealed fats later. JMO

But I did make some additions. I trimmed a little of the surface fat from it. I seasoned it with ground pepper, salt, and some garlic powder. I topped with some crushed red pepper flakes and let it stand for about 10 minutes. I sliced up a sweet onion and put it underneath. Then I poured in two cans of A&W Rootbeer. I cooked the pork on low for 7-8 hours. Then I shred it with two forks, drained it, then put it back in. Turned the slow cooker to warm, and mixed in some BBQ sauce. If you are ever near Cashmere, WA, pick up some Country Boys BBQ sauce!

I was so surprised that something so easy could test so great! I followed the recipe exactly. The only note I can add is to shred the meat using an electric mixer. I used my Kitchenaid and it shredded the meat in seconds. So much easier than using forks. Thank you for this delicious recipe!

Made exactly as written, using one suggestion to spray the pot with cooking spray first to help with cleanup. it was delicious.

This couldn’t have been easier to make and was tasty and delicious!

I made this and actually received a very rare compliment on my cooking from my 15 year old! We all thought it was delicious. I only added three seasonings per another reviewer: I rubbed salt, pepper, and garlic salt on the pork before adding it to the crockpot. I sprayed my crockpot before putting the pork in for easy clean up afterwards. It was truly delicious and I’ll be making this frequently! Thank you.
