Slow Cooker Beer Pulled Pork

  4.8 – 211 reviews  • Pulled Pork

One can of beer, a 5- to 6-pound pork butt, seasonings, and a bottle of barbecue sauce make up my straightforward recipe for pulled pork. Shiner Bock is my preferred beer, and Sweet Baby Ray’s is my preferred barbecue sauce. Simply place it in a slow cooker before going to bed, and when you wake up, magic will have occurred. Check it out yourself! Serve on hamburger or onion buns.

Really good. I think a little less salt would be ideal.

Super easy, I wasn’t making a lot but one 2lb pork loin and followed the cooking instruction, I used my own seasoning and a 12oz budlight, cooked it on high for 1 hour then low for 8 after I poured the BBQ (sweet baby rays) into it stirred it up right put it on low for 1 more hour and it came out so tender and delicious, definitely a super easy recipe and super delicious

Great recipe. One variant is a bottle of Shiner. Plus 1 teaspoon of beer every 30 minutes from a freshly open bottle. Dispose of rest of bottle in a responsible manner. Repeat until 6 pack is empty.

I happened to have a +3 lb. pork “shoulder” roast (lots of marbeling and large fat cap) so was perfect for this recipe. NOTE: butcher says the shoulder & butt pork roast come from the same area of the pig’s shoulder. Because it wasn’t the 5 lb. used in the recipe I made some minimal alterations in amounts and time. This was wonderful and pull-apart tender. We both highly recommend it!!

I’ve made this many times. It’s so easy, good and EVERYONE loves it. Thank you for the recipe.

This turned out to be excellent. I tasted the pork as I was shredding it and it did not have much flavor so I was concerned. But then I added 1 part Famous Dave’s Devil’s Spit and 2 parts Famous Dave’s Sweet and Zesty Barbecue Sauce and it came alive! It even had a smoky flavor to it. I swear by these two sauces. I will definitely make this again.

We love this easy pulled pork recipe and have made it several times. I do not discard the flavorful drippings, I use it to make rice. The drippings are measured out, some of the fat skimmed off, and brought to a boil on the stove. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Since rice is a 1:2 ration with water, I reduce the rice by one cup, bring to a boil, and simmer for 20 minutes. Best rice to have with pulled pork!

Apparently my slow cooker doesn’t have a medium setting, only high/ low/ warm… so my only improvision was that after the bbq sauce was added, I put it on high for 30 min instead of medium for an hour. Turned out delicious. Gonna make some killer work lunches.

Oh my goodness! I have a new favorite way to make pulled pork sandwiches. We loved the beer flavor! I rubbed the spices into the pork shoulder, browned it on all sides, then put it in the crockpot with the beer and more garlic and onion powder. I didn’t have any shiner bock so used a can of 805. Crocked on low for 8 hours, removed, shredded, put 1/2 the meat in the freezer and returned 1/2 to the crockpot with 1/2 a jar of Buddy Stubbs sweet heat and crocked on low for 1 hour. In the mean time, I made a batch of Chef John’s Hamburger Buns. When serving, I added a few tbsp of bbq sauce to each sandwich. It got rave reviews at our Super Bowl party (for 2…there’s a pandemic). Can’t wait for leftovers tomorrow!

Very good, I’ll be making pork butt this way forever. Also, it’s very forgiving. I had to use a 7+ pound roast, because that was the smallest one they had. I didn’t know it had a bone in it, and it filled the cooker so much I couldn’t use the whole bottle of beer. It was still wonderful. South Carolina has 4 kinds of BBQ sauce depending on your region (Catsup based, mustard, vinegar, and tomato). I used the vinegar based one–still wonderful. I bet if I added some liquid smoke, it would probably fool some people as the traditional outdoor deal. Be sure you use a dark beer.

Used a Guinness for the beer and added

This will be my new go to pulled pork recipe. I had an 8lb pork butt roast so I added extra spices accordingly. I only did the one bottle of beer. It was plenty. I used Yuengling Lager beer. I may have used less than 12 oz of BBQ sauce. I don’t like too much. I had three different kinds of bbq sauces leftover so I just mixed them together. I did put a little of the juices back in too. Cooked for 1 hr on high and 8 on low, then 1/2 hr on warm. Served on ciabatta rolls with home made coleslaw, and green beans. Whole family loved it! Very easy and delicious!!

So good and soooo easy! I will make this often!

I’ve made several variations of this for my wife and we love it! I’ve always used Jan’s suggestion and added several additional spices to taste. Bay leaf, paprika, dried mustard….whatever you want. I also throw in a touch more spices than what’s called for. I save the juices and add a little flour for gravy in a side pan. Can use it for au jus dipping as is. I used Yuengling larger beer if your east of the Mississippi! If you’re on the West side, no luck. Maybe special order?

Absolutely delicious!! I used more seasonings than suggested plus I used the only beer (Blue Moon) I had….truly wonderful!! I also added the juice and drippings to my favorite bbq sauce and simmered for 30mins. Thanks for sharing!

This is very easy. It doesn’t have the smoky flavor of being smoked/grilled, but it is very moist. I cooked mine overnight since I am gone longer than the cooking time and even with the warming setting on my slow cooker, things tend to dry out if left there. So we re-heated after coming home from work and had delicious pulled pork sandwiches!
James Wiley
Very good. I used onion salt and omitted the regular salt.

I used this rib rub on the pork All Recipes Dry Rub for Ribs to give it flavor and then let my family choose which BBQ sauce they wanted to add. My slow cooker runs a bit hot so it was done after 5-6 hours on low. I wouldn’t let this go overnight since I’m afraid it would dry out.
Matthew Holmes
It was so easy to make and it was delicious
