Reviews
First time making Sloppy Joe from scratch. Delicious recipe. So much better than store made.
I made is just like the recipe but doubled it and it was delicious!!
I did make changes, although I had not planned on it. First of all, I hadn’t thought about it but we only use Dijon mustard. The second change is that I only had 1/2 cup catsup on hand, so we ended up substituting the last quarter with Caribbean jerk sauce. It turned out great, so I am pretty sure the original recipe would have been please to us. Thank you for such an easy and tasty recipe!
This has become my new go-to recipe. No more packaged mixes for me! I just eliminate the green pepper, as I don’t care for that. Used all the rest of it and made a quick dinner with enough left over for another meal. I simply freeze the leftover and defrost as needed. Love this!
I absolutely loved this!! Thank you so much for recipe. After reading reviews the only difference was using 1/2 chili sauce and 1/2 ketchup as I had some on hand and wanted to use up. I also toasted buns and added a slice of cheese on top. This will be a regular addition to our weekly menu.
Outstanding, I made it just like the recipe directions. With 1 exception. I substituted 1 minced clove of Elephant garlic for the powdered garlic. It was awesome. Thanks Nicole for yet another great recipe to add to my file. No more CANNED MIX again ever.
It was excellent as written. Just in time for a quick dinner when all ingredients in pantry and freezer
My kids loved it! Way better then the can!
Great recipe! I add sliced black olives to ours
I always use yellow mustard on top, adds a tang and offsets the sweetness.
I’m from small town Iowa, and our “sloppy joes” AKA “taverns” never had green pepper nor brown sugar in the recipe. We also BOILED the ground beef, onion, Ketchup, water and a hint of mustard..not fried it..therefore using the leanest ground beef available. Church stands at town and county fairs always preferred this method and served the sandwiches on warmed buns with a dill pickle slice ( or two).
Only difference for me was that my Mom would toast the buns. Yum!
I’ve made this recipe before, but I do it now with Chili Sauce rather than Ketchup. My wife doesn’t like Ketchup and it seemed a good substitute. In my opinion, it’s better.
This is almost identical to the recipe i’ve been eating for nearly 50 years. only difference is we use seasoning salt to season the ground beef after draining the grease and before mixing in the ketchup and mustard and stuff. Awesome to see others enjoying a classic like this. My favorite has always been sloppy joes and homemade coleslaw, gotta have a crunch with all the soft textures of the sloppy joes.
Hubby loved it!
Added onion powder cause hubby doesn’t like texture of oinions in a receipe. Added smoke paprika for kick. Yum’s for tummy’s says everyone else!
My family loved it!
This was easy and quick to make. I made the recipe as written. The meat mixture was very good though I will use less mustard next time.
Very good basic sloppy Joe recipe! I just added a little tomato paste, cider vinegar, worchestershire, and a little water. It was excellent!!!
I added a 1/2 can of tomato sauce with 1/2 cup of ketchup. I did not add the mustard this time. Family thought it was amazing. So did I!!
This is the recipe I’ve been using for a long time. The only change I make is using 1/2 cup ketchup & 1/4 cup Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce. Sometimes I add a little water if it seems to dry. This brings the rating up to a 5!
