The flavor of this recipe for root beer cake is authentically vintage. Kids will adore it. On top, you can add crushed root beer candies. Vanilla ice cream is the perfect topping for this cake.

My favorite chili mac dish by far!
This is a great recipe! I made a couple adjustments to suit my taste. I left out the beans, used beef broth, used Emeril’s Pasta Sauce instead of Ragu, and mixed in cubed Velveeta before baking. I also added more cheese on top. I love it served with sour cream! Definite 5 stars!
DELICIOUS!! We made this at a women’s retreat of 15 women – everyone took copies of the recipe! Absolutely delicious and so easy, especially for large groups!
Absolutely delicious.
Very solid recipe! Felt like an adult-version Hamburger Helper. Reduced the amount of chicken broth to make it less “soupy” as other reviewers had mentioned. May not be heavily used on the rotation but a good recipe nonetheless!
Sooooo good! Per suggestions of other reviewers, I reduced the amount of chicken broth to 1-1/2 cups, and upped the chili powder to 1 tablespoon — that’s it. Followed cooking instructions to the letter and it was fabulous! Pure comfort-food greatness.
This was easy and delicious! I tweeted it just a whisker. I added 2 cups of pasta and increased the simmer time. I also added the smallest brick of Velveeta with the cheddar.
So very simple and super quick. I love that you don’t have to cook the pasta separate. Hubby loved. Will def be making this again. The only thing I did different is I used a cheap DelMonte pasta sauce I had on hand. It was about 1/2 C too much so I just dumped it in anyway and added a small handful of extra macaroni.
I made this tonight and did it a little different since there’s only 2 of us and this made a lot. I cooked the noodles separately so I could freeze the unused portions. When I made the recipe exactly how it stated all I could taste was spaghetti sauce. I ended up putting a package of McCormick chili seasoning in. Next time I would definitely not use the Ragu and instead use tomato sauce.
Easy, quick, and delicious! I doubled the seasonings and loved the extra kick of flavor. The whole family loves it. Will definitely be made again here!
I love a good one pot recipe!
It got to thick after cooking so I added more chicken broth. A little spicy but very good. Followed directions exactly; just didn’t add cheese. I don’t think it need any.
This was ok for a very quick one pot meal. My issue is that it’s lacking flavor. I doubled the chili and the cumin and it was still missing a chili punch. I subbed beef broth for the chicken and I only added one cup because another reviewer said that it was soupy. It was not soupy with one cup. I also thought 3/4 C cheese was sparse so I added full C. Still wasn’t all that cheesy.
Excellent! I doubled the recipe (12 servings) and added a couple of cans of black beans, just to get a bit more fiber into the meal. Otherwise, I followed the recipe and we really enjoyed the results. FWIW, minus the beans, this dish is somewhat similar to Chef John’s American Goulash but with a bit more kick than the goulash.
This was so easy to make and my super picky husband and kids who all have different tastes, loved it and came back for second helpings! The following day I was asked to make it again because the leftovers were already gone! This will definitely be a staple in my house! I made it exactly as the recipe said.
This is REALLY good, followed the recipe fairly closely and am very happy to help myself to seconds. Will absolutely be making this again,
I was remembering the chili mac we used to eat in the mess hall during my days in the military. Found this recipe and seemed easy and with ingredients I could substitute. Used regular kidney beans, diced tomatoes without chilli peppers because it’s what I had. A fourteen ounce jar of pasta sauce, and one cup of broth. I added the spices to my taste. It turned out very good. Looking forward to leftovers
It’s a staple and so quick to make
5 stars!!! The only change I made was the brand/flavor pasta sauce and used a 7.5 oz of pasta shells cause that’s what I had in hand. Topped with sour cream!GOOD STUFF!
Super Yummy. Made it just as is. Just had cheese and parsley as a side topper. I did add 2c. of elbows , perfect.
The whole family loved this dish! Frozen leftovers were delicious when topped with breadcrumbs and baked as a casserole. Will definitely share and make this one over and over!
